| Herald speculation [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams could be close to bolstering his defence with the signing of Efe Ambrose. Adams was linked with a move for the 30-year-old by the Scottish Sun last summer as a replacement for Sonny Bradley. Bradley's contract was set to expire with the Pilgrims and he eventually secured a move to fellow League One side Luton Town. But a move for Ambrose never transpired, he instead stayed on with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. But the defender has now left the club in order to 'pursue an opportunity elsewhere'. Ambrose, who has over 50 international caps with Nigeria, has rejected a new three-year deal with Hibs and has instead triggered a clause in his existing contract to leave the club. He played 86 times for the side, 24 of which came this season, scoring three goals and registering three assists. A statement from Hibernian said: "A popular figure with players, staff and supporters alike, the club made every effort to keep Efe but respect his decision and thank him for his contribution. "He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Hibernian." Adams is keen to bolster his defence and is already set to bring former Pilgrim Oscar Threlkeld back to Home Park. Threlkeld will compete with Joe Riley and Tafari Moore at right-back but the club also need to strengthen the centre of their defence. The side have conceded 47 goals in 26 games in League One this season, with only Scunthorpe United conceding more. |

| herald speculation [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Norwich City goalkeeper Remi Matthews is being chased by a number of clubs after his permanent move to Bolton Wanderers fell through. Reports claim that the 24-year-old had agreed a deal to make his loan move to Phil Parkinson's side permanent but a transfer embargo stopped it from going through. Matthews, who had a successful loan spell with the Plymouth Argyle last season, is allowed to move on from the high flying Canaries. Derek Adams has had Arsenal loanee Matt Macey as his shot-stopper for the majority of the season but he has struggled to make an impact. The goalkeeper suffered a dead leg during the 2-1 Boxing Day defeat at AFC Wimbledon and has missed the last two matches, with Kyle Letheren deputising for him. In an interview with Plymouth Live earlier this week, Adams said of Macey's deal: "Arsenal have a recall clause in his contract in January but we don’t have one the other way. "So it would be up to Arsenal to decide if they wanted to recall him and put him into the Championship, or if they want to keep him in League One." So whilst Argyle cannot end the loan deal, there is no reason why Adams couldn't make a move for Matthews and Arsenal could then recall Macey if he wasn't in the Scot's plans. Matthews made four appearances for Bolton during his loan spell, only one of which ended in victory for the side. If the Norwich man was to sign for the Pilgrims, he wouldn't be the only player to return, with defender Oscar Threlkeld also poised for a return to Home Park. |

| I simply cant see Matthews "signing" for Argyle as he must be on or was 5 figures a month at Norwich He might take 7 or 8k but Argyle couldnt offer more than 3k absolute tops I would imagine |

| Desperate loans and short term signings in a pathetic attempt to save our miserable season. Then in the summer it's rebuild time again with more rejects and crocks so we can spend the first half of 19/20 propping up whatever division we're in next season. When hallett said he was continuing the same as brent he meant it.
As for the Nigerian international defender, wasn't Taribo West supposed to be '30'? If he signs he'll probably turn out to be nearer 50.

| 4 spl titles under his belt turnt down 3 year contract at hibs, doubt he will end up here
Hibernian have confirmed Efe Ambrose is leaving the club after the defender triggered a release clause in his contract.
Ambrose informed Hibs that he was turning down the club's offer of a three-year contract in order to pursue playing opportunities elsewhere.
A statement from the club said: "Hibernian can confirm the departure of Efe Ambrose.
"The 30-year-old centre-back has invoked a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Easter Road Stadium this month, having indicated a desire to pursue an opportunity elsewhere and, therefore, turn down an improved three-year contract to extend his stay in Edinburgh.
"A popular figure with players, staff and supporters alike, the club made every effort to keep Efe but respect his decision and thank him for his contribution.
"He leaves with the best wishes of everyone at Hibernian."
Ambrose joined Hibernian on loan from Celtic in February 2017 and signed on a permanent two-year contract at the end of the season.
The Nigerian played 68 times for Hibs and also appeared 113 times for Celtic during a five-year spell at Parkhead where he won four Scottish Premiership titles. |

| Can't see Argyle offering a three year deal to a 30 year old.
As for dumping Macey in favour of Matthews, I would think that going back on an agreement with Arsenal (to give Macey a season in the first team) would scupper any future loan deals with Premiership Clubs wanting to send players out to get game time. |

But shorely we shouldn't be just doffing our caps and thanking Arsenal every 5 minutes for bestowing Macey upon us? We shouldn't be afraid to say, actually, Macey has been less commanding than we'd like and perhaps it'd be better if he went back? TBH it's Arsenal who should be concerned, because a keeper who they've invested a lot of time in has turned out to be not particularly good at Div 3 level. |

Look how far we have come. If [admittedly it's a big if] this is true, then the guy looks to be a different class and with a far different recent playing record to anything Argyle signed in the summer. 30 is no age for a centre back who has been playing regularly at a reasonable level and the Hibs fans, who have seen a decent player or two over the years, seem to be genuinely depressed at his departure.Cynicism AFAIC about the reality of this will remain until he signs on and i'm not waiting with bated breath in all truth but IF it happens then it could be a season turner as was the signing of Toums last year, albeit in a different sort of way. |

Perhaps Arsenal already knew he wasn't top notch and were happy to get him loaned out to someone who'd give him games. Far easier to move a player who's had 30/40 first team games than one who's only ever played in the Under 21 team. Be interesting to know how much research we did on him, or was it just a case of we needed a keeper and took whoever was available? |

| Of course we're gonna be linked with any free agent coming out of jock land
Plymouth Argyle are believed to be one of the clubs keen on signing free agent Efe Ambrose, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Scottish Premiership side Hibernian.
According to the Scottish Sun, the Pilgrims are one of three clubs keen on signing the Nigerian international, but a move to Home Park looks the most unlikely of his three options.
Neil Warnock's Cardiff City are also said to be keen on the 30-year-old former Celtic stopper as they look for reinforcements to bolster their chances of staying in the Premier League. However, it seems no offer has been made for Ambrose with Turkish side Akhisarspor leading the chase for his signature.
Ambrose has received an offer from Akhisarspor, who are having a poor season after their successes of 2017/18 which saw them win the Turkish Cup last season. |
