I'm big on pasties too, and yeah, Oggy Oggy are very good, but The Morrisons ones don't have the nice big chunks of steak they used to earlier last year.

Considering the part of the country we live in, there are a lot of pretty crap concoctions out there masquerading as pasties.

I long for the days of old when you could get a 'Carlyons' pasty inside the ground - they were f8cking gorgeous!

Rowes are watery and tasteless.
Friary Mill 'look' nice, but are a disappointment tastewise.
Ron Dewdney are all spud...

...and on that note, I'm off for a 'Giant' Ivor, and a couple of pints of Thatchers Gold. Laughing

I have too agree there Czarcasm, too many shops selling horrible pasties for me down here! Need to be very streetwise, or pasty wise..

However, up country they get hell of alot worse! I think i had a pasty away at wednesday last season, all that was inside was some pea's and abit of potatoe.. wasnt happy! And did anyone have a pasty away at brizzle rovers this year? Eurgh another horrible pasty experience!

Can't really comment on pasties, being a vegetarian. But whoever first had the idea for the vegetable balti pies they sell at Arsenal deserves to be king.

Why not Peggy. I don't eat meat and there are plenty of veggie options out there.
I was fascinated to hear a short radio item the other day on Notts Forest.
Their owner is a committed vegan and environmental campaigner and has started some sort of Forest green movement. He has taken meat off the menu at Forest all together .... TOTALLY. affraid
I never thought I would see the day. Why couldn't he have bought Argyle ?

Hasn't he just died aged 54 (Doughty)? Although looking at his wiki couldn't see anything on veganism.

I think Penz is getting his Forests mixed up. Forest Green Rovers have gone Veggie. Something for Peggy and Penz to look forward to next season Rolling Eyes

You're right Ali ... what a shock... a few days ago.
That's obviously what the radio programme was all about the other day then. I wonder if the club will continue with his desires ?

Ah ! Again, you may be right Andy. This is what happens when you tune in half way into a radio programme. Very Happy

I thought it might be too good to be true, a club the size of Forest going veggie. Ho hum.

My local supermarket in a remote part of South Africa does "Cornish Pasties" in it's pie shop, so out of duty I bought one last time I was there.

Proper job...flaky pastry enclosing peas and carrots and some sort of chickeny gravy mush. Steak pies are OK though.

(This should probably be on mundane, but...)

Just back from Ivors and the pub. Mr Dewdney did me proud as usual. And the Thatchers went down a treat. There's something about being sat in the sunshine, wrapped up warm, but out of the wind, with a lovely pint, that just makes everything fine with the world. Very Happy

Anyway, a confession. Work takes me around the country quite a lot and grabbing food on-the-go is usually the norm. There's a huge national chain of bakeries that, bizarrely, I don't think have any outlets west of Bristol - Greggs. Now, they're probably the last place on earth you''d expect to find a delicious flaky pasty - but their version of a 'cornish pasty' is REALLY good.

Even if it does have peas. scratch

The little crimped ones Tring? It is a bit wierd 'cos they are just filled with a big mushy mess, but I love 'em. (And they're only £1.17, which means it's rude not to buy two) Very Happy

There certainly are, but I'm always being told there's only one definition of pasty!

Choughs is without doubt a good bet.... as is Barnacotts ( Wadebridge etc ). Rowes have come up across the river and their veggie ones seem to export well.
While the veggie ones from a shop are fine as shop pasties go, I have to admit I never succeeded in baking my own ... so I gave up making my own pasties to our family recipe once I stopped eating meat, in favour of other pastries ... it's the one thing I can honestly say I miss ... the baking of them .... such is life... it moves on.

Rowes it is then. She is at Uni in Falmouth and has been amused at how many Rowes shops there are there. I'll let her know. She's not a proper student, though, she doesn't seem to be living on chips & baked beans! She seems to cook most of her meals!

Thanks.

Rowe's factory is based in Falmouth - I was there yesterday! They've got a contract with Asda to supply most of their shops in SW. The pasties sold by the West Cornwall Pasty Company (around London) are made by Rowe's.
