| PLYMOUTH Argyle have made a second attempt to open talks over a new contract for playmaker Graham Carey.
However, the talented 27-year-old, who was nominated for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award for October, still wants to bide his time.
His current deal runs until next June, when he could leave the Pilgrims as a free agent should he decide to do so.
Manager Derek Adams admitted it was probable there would be interest in Carey from other clubs during the January transfer window. Adams pointed out, though, that Carey would have a value to the Pilgrims, not only because of his ability but also as they are chasing promotion.
Argyle first tried to open talks about a new contract with Carey in pre-season but he wanted to keep his options open.
Adams told Herald Sport: "I spoke to his agent and we are just in the same scenario that they are going to wait.
"There is nothing coming back on their side. Graham has done really well for us so he's just keeping his options open.
"There is nothing else we can do at this moment in time. We have spoken to the agent and the player and it's in their court."
Carey was Argyle's second top scorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions and has already netted eight times this term.
He has also come up with a number of assists for his team-mates, both from open play and set pieces.
Many of the Green Army regard Carey as the best player Argyle have had since the club were in the Championship from 2004 to 2010.
As his contract ends next summer, Carey's agent would be allowed to talk to other clubs about possible moves for him from January onwards.
"That's just the way football is," said Adams. "We have got Graham contracted until the end of the season.
Graham Carey previously played for Argyle manager Derek Adams at Ross County
"He's doing well and we are delighted with him."
Asked whether he thought other clubs might try to sign Carey in January, Adams replied: "Clubs will probably look at that.
"But there is a value to the football club on his deal until the end of the season, and also the value to the team when we are in the promotion places."
Adams would clearly not want to see Carey leave in January because he is such a key player for Argyle.
He said: "I don't see that happening unless there is a bid that we feel is acceptable to the football club. That's the nature of business.
"We haven't had any bids at this moment in time so it's hearsay."
Carey was signed by Adams in the summer of 2015 having previously played under him at Scottish Premiership club Ross County and Argyle activated a clause in his contract to keep him this season.
Adams said: "What you have got to remember is that Graham Carey came to this football club and people were asking 'Who is he'?
"It was the same with a number of others, and they have all gone on to do well.
"It's great for myself as a manager to see the creativity that Graham has got.
"He has used the platform and done well for the football club while he has been here."
Carey told Herald Sport last week that Adams was able to get the best out of him by playing him in a more central position.
Adams said: "I know how Graham works and Graham knows how I work.
"We have got a very good working relationship and when he goes somewhere else, which he is going to do eventually, he has got to try to get that relationship with somebody else, and it's never easy."

| Cant blame Graham for wanting to see how things go. Given Brent's track record in January despite out good form of late if he signs now and then sees a repeat of last year and ends up still playing in League 2 he isnt going to be happy.
However, if we are strengthening in January and we continue our form and go up as Champions or Another form then he is more likely to sign up.
I just hope we dont just make a play for Carey and ignore the rest in the squad. |

I just hope we dont just make a play for Carey and ignore the rest in the squad. I know what you're saying, but I can't remember a time when one single player carried as much weight on his shoulders as Carey currently does. If you tot up his goals and direct assists, then factor in his all round play and indirect assists, he's worth his weight in gold. Hourihane was a very good player, but Carey is a level up. Buzsaky, Halmosi, Norris were all top players. But none of them would have impacted their respective teams as much with their omission, as Carey would to this team. First off we need to go up. Then we need to make him a really serious offer. |

| Most agents would hold their players back from signing any binding contract at this time of the season.....agents have the eye for what's in it for themselves.....they're just scum. |

First off we need to go up. Then we need to make him a really serious offer. I feel Janaury will be a good indication as to how his future goes. Del Bhey can convince him he can take us up but can Brent and his small budget and shit grandstand plans do the same. |

| Another attempt to get Carey to sign a new contract eh Brent pull out all the stops throw in a packet of fruit pastels and a curlywurly. If Carey's got any sense he'll get a clause so he can leave for free if pafc dont get promoted this season.

| Argo will struggle and plummet down the division when Carey is sold. We'll never get out of this division (upwards) with brent as owner. |

| Carey, will be sold and replaced by a useless cheap loan signing, Argo wont get promoted but the club makes Jimmy a tidy profit this will be regarded as sustainable progress by Jimmy's jamboys.........Village till the end. |

Ah yes, the whole thing is all due to Carey's agent. What a terrible piece of scum that Carey agent (does anyone even know his name?). Awful. It could never be anything to do with the wages on offer at the club right now, or even the fact that players are entitled to look for the best deal available. Everything is the fault of agents. So if/when Carey leaves, it will all be the fault of his agent and Brent will automatically not to blame. How convenient for zyph, whose mind is clearly made up to defend Brent at all costs. |

Most clubs run with a degree of proffesionalism would have tied their best player down for more than 12 months, thus giving him a transfer value. As it is if someone waves a packet of polos in front of Jimmy, he swipe their hand off rather than lose him for free in the summer. Saying agents are scum is silly. Some probably are, but a most footballers are not capable of reading complex contracts and understanding employment law having someone do it for them for 10% is pretty essential dontcha think? |
