Newport County boss aims to shake things up before Plymouth tie
WARREN Feeney still hopes to add at least two players before tomorrow night’s match at Plymouth Argyle and the Newport County AFC manager says he will make significant changes for the Checkatrade Trophy tie.
Feeney was disappointed by his side’s performance at Hartlepool United on Saturday as they were forced to settle for a point, despite playing against 10 men for 87 minutes plus stoppage time.
And, with League Two the priority, the Exiles boss views the Trophy as a chance to rest some players and give others a chance to impress.
“Sometimes you can flog your players too much at the start of the season,” said Feeney.
“I know they’re fit and they’re professionals but with the week we’ve had I’m probably going to mix it up.
“We need to get some back up to fitness because we’ve only had one reserve game.
“I think you’ve got to start five from the Saturday but I’ll be making changes definitely. It’s time to get players fit in a competitive game.
“I think that’s important. It’s a small squad and we want to get bodies in but you don’t want to be flogging anyone.
“It’s important you don’t go all guns blazing on the players – you’ve got to look after them.”
On his potential transfer dealings, Feeney added: “I’m hoping to bring in two or three players.
“It’s tough because one of the ones I’m looking at is away on international duty but I think it is important that we bring more bodies in.”
Jack Compton returned from a calf injury as a second half substitute at Hartlepool and could start at Home Park.
“Jack hasn’t played a game in two weeks and he’s only trained for two or three days so that will do him good to get fit,” said Feeney.
“He’s in contention [for Tuesday]. Hopefully we’ll have Jamie Turley back next week [against Barnet at home] as well.”

| I pick this little gem up from thr internet.
I've just called the box office to enquire as i had tickets in block 2 which is now closed and was told i and anyone else who has tickets in closed areas has to return to the ticket office in person to get them changes as they will not work on the Lyndhurst. Nothing at all on the OS about this from the club what so ever.

Errington can not get anything right, even when his mrs works in the ticket office It would be nice to know the split in adults and children, I was told it was like a play school there. |
