| CARL McHugh has agreed terms to return to Home Park.
The 23-year-old Irishman is set to commit his future to Argyle and will join the Pilgrims' pre-season preparations next week.
He was notably absent when the squad returned to training on Friday but has since accepted the club's offer of a new deal, joining goalkeepers Vincent Dorel and Luke McCormick, defenders Ben Purrington and Gary Sawyer, midfielder Graham Carey, and forwards Ryan Brunt, Jake Jervis and Louis Rooney in re-signing for the 2016-17 Sky Bet League Two season.
Carl originally signed for Argyle from Bradford City in the summer of 2014 as a defender but was moved to central midfield by Derek Adams last season and excelled in his new role. He was 1% of the vote away from winning Pilgrim of the Year for the campaign - pipped by countryman Graham Carey - which was testimony to his success in the new role.
Prior to that, Carl was a key part of Argyle’s defence in 2014-15, alongside Peter Hartley and Curtis Nelson. He made 43 starts for the Pilgrims after 44 appearances for Bradford, who he joined from Reading and where he played an integral part in the Bantams’ fairy-tale run to the 2013 Carling Cup, beating Arsenal and Aston Villa along the way.
County Donegal-born Carl has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 levels, playing alongside new Pilgrim Connor Smith, who he lined up against in May's Sky Bet League Two Play-off Final match with Wimbledon.

| Applause, applause for this one,far more important than losing Harvey or Mellor. His and Oscar's versatility should prove to be a boon during the season-good player. |

| Thought he'd be off, but very pleased he's staying. Important player in the side. |

That's a great shout actually. Dunno if any of the new lads have that sort of leadership quality, but we know McHugh has it. |

No less vocal than Nelson, I'd say. I'd also put him streets ahead of Nelson when it comes to leading by example. |

| That page on the Baggo has been removed. He's just signed for Motherwell, so that's probably why |

I guess Motherwell offered longer than a year! Brief synopsis: "We fecked up and there's nothing we can do about it" |

| As we all know the Argyle communication thread is almost non-existent and much as we keep saying ''just explain what is really going on regarding squad size, budgets etc'' we only get snippets like ''budget is more than last season'' It would appear that the budget is such to entice northern based players (Threkkers for example) down to Argyle and to entice a player who had an offer from a Lge 1 side. So - back to McHugh. If ever a situation needed clarification then this is the one. The club must explain ''who told who'' and ''who said what'' so at least we, as the fans, know who was not quite being truthful. I would be highly highly surprised if it was DA as he is not a man to make up stories. So was it McHugh who was McLiar? P'raps during his visit to Dublin he bumped into the chairman of Motherwell who, in a drunken moment, offered him £5K a week. Somehow I think not. A few thoughts though: 1. Why was McHugh allowed extra time off in Dublin when he was going to sign 2. The wages Motherwell pay are not vastly different to Argyle 3. The offer made by Argyle to McHugh, as one of their better players, was probably on a par with Carey and he signed immediately. 4. Its not ''I'm going home to Ireland''
SO - what has gone on????? |

| Should have tied him down. Not surprised though given how rank amateur the club are in their administration. Giving an arse-kissing ex copper the Club Secretary job, being a prime example.

| Surely Starnes and Brent must shoulder a lot of blame for this, another player who leaves for a club offering a 2 year deal. Fecking 1 year short-term thinking winkers!!!!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| I'm sorry, but that's really made me laugh. I can't think of a more mickey mouse thing ever happening at this club. It just confirms what a hopeless budget is on offer. Any player who can command another job somewhere else, apart from two personally loyal players of Adams', and McCormick for obvious reasons, is pootling off as far as they can get. All praise the squire. |

| I've just thought. Perhaps McHugh is worried about staying in the EU job market., so has gone north of the border. |
