Bretonside subways will be filled so work can start on new £42 million complex
Work will soon start on filling the subways either end of Bretonside bus station to make way for a huge new £42 million complex, councillors decided at a planning committee.
The subways will be physically retained, but will become private spaces used as a fire escape and access for shoppers from the new car park to the footway outside Primark.
Plymouth City Council and developer British Land have revealed plans to replace the subways with crossings at surface level, with public access to the cinema and restaurant complex via three pedestrian walkways.
An improved surface level crossing will go at the level crossing at St Andrew's Cross end and another at Charles Cross.
