| do the club not realise that the more they delay offering contracts the players are going to start looking around for alternative options come end of the season. Could you really blame them if they do?

| This is a professional football club, isn't it? What is the sense in not offering players who he wants to keep, contracts for next season.
Unless of course, there is no inkling as to what the budget will be.

| Why can't players be made two offers. £x if we go up, £y if we don't?
Or is this too simple? |

But it's not the same old Argyle is it ? I have never known such a situation at Argyle to this extent. It's embarrassing, and more worryingly, not a very nice way to treat your employees, especially if we intend to "build a club", as Del boy wants. What on earth must be the chirping on the football industry grapevine ? I'm beginning to wonder just what makes this guy Brent tick ? It's almost paranoia.

We re argyle a bit slow offering deals under fletcher and last season maybe ? Not the same but it really is no shock. |

Or is this too simple? Dont see why that couldn't be done. Might be a ball ache with admin wise but surely the players would at least know whats on offer either way whether they are part of the future plans for for whatever league we end up in and then they can make the choice to stay or go. I don't see how negotiating 19 contracts, (although i doubt all 19 who have perm contracts here will be offered deals) at the last minute is going to be best for business for Argyle. If anything its going to allow other clubs to sneak in and potentially raid our squad. |

| I would imagine some of the so so squad players would have an interest in staying down. Why help a club to promotion when you know darn well that would mean being replaced next season by some other journeyman with proven League 1 experience. Just another example how such an employment policy can bite you. |

That's a ridiculous theory. Is it ? Wild west more like. I suggest you visit a theory of one of your celebrated American business gurus. He lectured a great deal about subconscious revenge theory in the employment sphere, as well as the markets. Basically you treat humans badly, they will let you down when the market shifts and you need them more than they need you. In fact as a taoist, I would call it correcting balance, a seasonal return. Nothing to do with socialism, grandad, everything to do with the animal in us, supply and demand, and rhythm. It happens in family, so you can be sure it happens in something as extended as business |

| Yeah , okay.. How about the theory of achieving something and bettering yourself and then not being paranoid that you are not good enough to step up and stay there?

. Doesn't sound much like the Argyle squad since Christmas, does it Ricks ? Barring 2 or 3, we're talking journeyman lower league footballers just happy to have a job, not Chariots of Fire. |

| Triggering contract extensions is all well and good if you are not in demand but Carey triggering this deal is worthless as it doesn't stop him shopping around for a better one. He's not obligated to sign it.
As above it is perfectly reasonable to say to a player here's a contract for league one and here's one for league two.
So unlike Brent to lumber from one season to the next without a joined up plan and making decisions for the short term benefit of himself. |

| Instead of old quivering lip, what we need is a real capitalist like the BHS fat cat and lord. He'd soon cash in and sell us for a quid. All those buckets must add up shorely.............. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

That's a ridiculous theory. No it isn't. According to the secret footballer column in the guardian that does actually happen. Similarly to teams who don't want to go up because they can't afford it. 5 year plans are not all about up, up and away. |

People close to the Stapes regime we're saying that Luggy held the team back in one of our would be promotion years because he thought the team weren't ready! Can't remember zackly but think it was from lge. 1 to championship. |

Like an ex-footballer columnist for a broadsheet newspaper that can only write under a nom-de-plume due to the sensitivity of what he writes? We'd all like to believe in Corinthian values of sport, however the reality is usually somewhat different. The bulk of these players don't have contracts beyond this season, would you jeopardise your future earning potential when you could just as easily be out the door come June? |

| ...and of course nobody ever embellished something in a book just to try and sell it, did they..?
Anyway back to the Biro's original point of Argyle players this season throwing in the towel in to stave off promotion and keep their place in the squad ( like that would ensure they would be given a new deal) or Luggy holding the team back because they weren't ready!! Jezzus wept. Sorry, I don't believe it and I think you're an idiot if you do.
I'm finished on this subject. |
