MATCH-DAY MAGIC v CAMBRIDGE
THIS Saturday’s game at Home Park will provide another busy day for Argyle Community Trust staff, as our Match-Day Magic promotion is again fully booked.
We will be joined 120 children, club officials and parents, who will descend on Home Park at 10am to enjoy a full day of activities, and for the majority of the children, aged 7 to 11 years, this will be a special and memorable occasion being their first time seeing a live professional game.
The Youth Football clubs attending for the Cambridge game are all from the west of the Tamar and include Tregorrick (from the St.Austell area), Padstow, Looe and Callington.
The day will start with a welcome, a brief talk on the history of the club and a Stadium tour. This is followed by a coaching session for the children in the adjacent Life Centre and then a buffet for everyone at the same venue.
Finally, the groups are escorted to our award-winning Family Stand, where there are activities for the youngsters to enjoy prior to the game and also at half time.
Hopefully, they will have witnessed another three points for the lads in Green and will become regular supporters in years to come. |

| Cambridge will be a class above our piss poor 'injury' ravaged side. Can't see anything other than us being totally outclassed yet again with cambridge strolling to a very easy win. Glad I'm not going.

I'm a bit out of the loop outside of ATD, being a self imposed media exile. I've got too used to Tgwu's input Derek Adams admits Plymouth Argyle are still gripped by injury problemsMidfielder Josh Simpson suffered a hamstring injury in Argyle's 1-1 draw away to Dagenham and Redbridge on November 28 DEREK ADAMS is gloomy about the prospects of many of his injured Plymouth Argyle players being fit for the visit of Cambridge United to Home Park on Saturday. Midfield duo Graham Carey and Josh Simpson were added to the casualty list in the last game, the 1-1 draw away to Dagenham and Redbridge on November 28. The Pilgrims were already without goalkeeper Luke McCormick, centre-back Peter Hartley, midfielder Hiram Boateng and striker Reuben Reid because of injuries. Adams had sounded optimistic after the game against Dagenham that most of the players would be fit in time to face Cambridge, with the exception of Boateng. But now the Argyle manager reckons only one of them – and he declined to say who – would be available for selection. Adams told Herald Sport: "We had hoped that we would have had more back, but for one reason and another it's not going to be the case. "We have got a tight squad and we are aware we need the senior players back as quickly as possible." Carey, who has been Argyle's most influential player this season, injured his right knee when he was tackled by Dagenham defender Clevid Dikamona shortly before half-time. Adams would not be drawn on the extent of the damage to Carey's knee, other than to state he did not believe it was a ligament issue. He said: "I don't think it is. He has got a problem with the type of challenge that he had against Dagenham and Redbridge." The injuries have been to key players and the Pilgrims have lost top spot in League Two after picking up only a couple of points from their last three games. Adams said: "We are hopeful they are not (out of action) too long. "They have obviously been long enough at this moment in time and it has not helped us over recent weeks." Argyle did not have a game last Saturday because they were already out of the FA Cup after losing 2-0 at home to Carlisle United in the first round. Adams took the opportunity to return to Scotland for the weekend, and went to Kilmarnock's 1-1 draw at home to Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership. He said: "It was nice to go up and watch a game. "There were a lot of talented players on show who like to pass the ball and move. It was an interesting afternoon." |

| The 14-day Itch
AFTER two weeks without kicking a ball in anger, Carl McHugh says the entire Argyle squad are itching to get back into action. After a gruelling set of fixtures to start the 2015-16 campaign, the Greens were without a game last weekend, giving the likes of Carl a brief chance to fulfill other important commitments, before focusing in on footballing matters this week.
“It’s been good,” said McHugh. “It’s kind of given us a chance to regroup, and clear up a few injuries.
“I went home for a few days to see my family, so it was nice. I obviously haven’t seen them much since pre-season, so that was nice just to get home for a few days.
“Obviously you miss the games at the same time; it seems like ages since we have played a game, so we’re all raring to go for Saturday.
“You get used to the midweek games and it is tough. It’s been nice to have a little break to recharge the batteries and go again for a massive group of four or five games over the Christmas period, which is massive for our season."
The gap in games also gives a number of injured Pilgrims an opportunity to rest up and get treatment before the run of Christmas fixtures, and whether it is through returning players or others stepping up to the plate, McHugh is backing the squad to come back stronger in December.
“It’s part and parcel of the game,” said Carl. “It’s a slog of a season, there’s a lot of games, so it’s inevitable that people are going to pick little knocks and injuries.
“People are going to have to step up that are going into the team. We’ll just have to stick together and get through it, and hopefully we’ll have everyone back ready for the last stretch and give it a good push.
“It’s just one of those things, and we just have to overcome it. We’ve got plenty of good players in the squad who can come in, and it’s going to give chances to other people to stake their claim for the rest of the season. We just have to stick together and come through it.” |

| Chief scout Greg Strong a key aide to Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams
MANAGER Derek Adams is meticulous when it comes to preparing for each and every Plymouth Argyle game.
He makes sure to find out all about the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition, including watching DVDs of them in action.
But one of Adams' main sources of information is Greg Strong, who he appointed as the Pilgrims' chief scout in July.
Strong has already travelled thousands of miles from his base in north-west England to check out Argyle's opponents and provided a lot of insight for Adams.
The pair, both aged 40, were team-mates at Scottish clubs Motherwell and Livingston days and Adams views the role of a chief scout as a very important one.
Cambridge United are Argyle's opponents at Home Park on Saturday and Strong has seen them twice over the past fortnight.
That includes their 3-1 FA Cup second round defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers on Sunday.
Adams told Herald Sport: "His main task is to go and see the opposition before we play them.
"I always like that. I like to know from somebody watching the game.
"We obviously watch it on video as well, and that gives us an insight and we can break it down.
"But it's always important that somebody can see the whole pitch and where the team have got their strengths and weaknesses."
It is not always possible for Strong to watch a team more than once.
But Adams said: "Sometimes it works out that they can be playing on a Tuesday night or a Sunday and then it is possible.
"Or you can have two teams playing against each other and we have got them both coming up."
Strong was the manager of Welsh Premier League club Rhyl for seven years before leaving at the end of last season and taking on his new role with Argyle.
It makes sense for him to be based up country, rather than being in the south west, because he can get around to games a lot more easily.
Adams said: "When he's up there he has got the motorways. He can go north, south, east and west – and quite quickly.
"He has been to London a number of times this season, so he has been on his travels.
"I worked with a chief scout in Scotland _ Stuart Miller – for seven or eight years. It's an important relationship.
"You can see a game through somebody else's eyes.
"On your own, you can miss things so it's important you listen to other people," added the former Ross County boss.
Cambridge appointed Shaun Derry as their new manager in the middle of last month after parting company with Richard Money.
They were 18th in the table when Money left and Cambridge lost their next two games in League Two.
But, since then, they have won 4-2 away to Morecambe and 3-1 at home to Notts County to move up to 15th.
Adams said: "They have got Barry Corr up front, who is the top scorer with 10 goals."
"They have changed their formation as well since the new manager has come in.
"With a new manager coming in it always changes the dynamics. He gives new ideas to the squad, so we will have to be wary of that.
"But he has had a number of games now in charge and we will see the differences that are made in the team." |

| HAVING A GO: Shaun Derry says his team will be on the attack this weekend
Derry, who was appointed in mid-November, started with an initial three defeats since taking over from Richard Money.
But he has helped the U's to turn their form around in the last two league games, with wins at Morecambe (4-2) and Notts County (3-1) - though they lost 3-1 in the FA Cup last weekend.
Their upturn in league form could have some alarm bells ringing in the Pilgrims camp, where a horrific run of injuries has robbed Argyle of a number of key figures including goalkeeper Luke McCormick, centre-half Peter Hartley, midfield talisman Graham Carey and striker Reuben Reid.
Derek Adams has refused to reveal whether Carey's problem – a recent injury – would mean he misses out on the clash, saying that only one of the injured players would be fit.
Derry said while he felt Argyle, who lie second in League Two, would provide tough opposition, Cambridge would not be scared of the task in front of them.
He told the Cambridge News: "They're a very good team and the manager (Derek Adams) has come down from Scotland and delivered his message and the team has delivered with the performance levels and results.
"That poses a problem for us and we've got to deal with their attacking prowess, but the message since I've been here is we've got to take our positivity to the opposition and I'm really delighted because I feel we've done that.
"By having the bravery to try the right things and the messages I'm trying to give them, it's been encouraging over the four or five games and now I'm looking for a points return from the weekend.

Game over |

| Boos at the ground. It sounds as if something ain't quite right. What terrible home form recently. And maybe the "injuries" are all part of the malaise. Could be a bad case of Jimmy doubt. That statement of his really couldn't have helped the mood.

| Brents no ambiton running of Argyle is there for all to see, Adams is being hung out to dry with a small low quality squad. Wait for the knobbers to start blaming Adams rather than the "No trick pony" owner. |
