Phillip Neville was a highly rated young cricketer about the same time Flintoff was coming through he played for Lancs second XI at the age of 15. He had to make a straight choice between the 2 sports eventually.

Yes, and if you go back a bit further to I think the 50's, I'm sure there was somebody who's name escapes me who played as a full international for England in both football and cricket.

Let's be honest. English people just don't do sport as much as they used to. Just check out the number of local council football/rugby/hockey/tennis etc etc pitches compared to the past. I see they're building on the old West Hoe courts I used to use.
Just pop down to the local park and see who, if anyone is doing anything energetic. Hong King communities doing their morning tai chi, foreign students playing basketball in their own time, pit bulls running ragged, that's about it.
The English are into eating crisps and fingering their samsung. Even the much heralded "legacy" nonsense spouted by Coe around the Olympic bid has turned out to be quite the opposite. Talking of which, the IAAF thing couldn't have happened to a more pompous person. Beautiful runner, awful politician. His idol and mentor is a corrupt cheat, and probable criminal.

Maybe burger flipping could be considered an Ingerland sport. You don't even have to buy your own team strip.

And Les, I think that might have been Dennis Compton. Great bat, enjoyable commentator.
Oh, and yes, Chick was a fine wide midfield, hard to pin down, and very fit even in his later days. I played with Dave Pook too, ended up pro in France. Great ballplayer, and a bit of a joker.

Willie Watson and Arthur Milton were both double internationals in that era-even back in the 1970's there were still loads of people like Chris Balderstone, Phil Neale, Ted Hemsley, Arnie Sidebottom etc who played both sports at pro level. Surely the king of all round sportsmen must be this man though;
