Well, it comes as no surprise to many of us that Ian Newell appears to be getting out of the online fan thing for pastures new, if we can believe his posts.... and I for one will be delighted. He has caused a lot of discontent across many fans' websites of several clubs over many many years. And of course, in true Newell tradition, this former lover of all things internet now blames his departure on us fans who dare to have an opinion, nothing to do with the fact he's had a better offer from Argyle and is 'moving on'
lol!
Anyhow, I'm delighted about the online thing, although not so happy about the effect this will have on the club. As David brent said, there's good news and there's bad news.
His position at the club is for another day, probably after the coronation on Saturday, but in the meantime, I'm a happy bunny.

I'm holding back on the celebrations for now. If he's, as he says, 'tiring' of pBay, it can only be because he thinks (or knows) there's a bigger and better forum for him to boss on the horizon.

Precisely

By preordaining his flounce he's further preparing the ground for super fan rep. From his coming out as Ian Newell (and his call for others to do the same whilst dissing people who haven't who are of course hiding, hiding I tell you behind pseudonyms), to meeting and greeting 'real' mates and fans in person at super FanFest and online, to indicating he wouldn't stand for the Trust but would stand for some kind of supervisory body, by constantly aligning himself with the President (can one not post without the other), to his twitter feed being one of the few appearing on the Pasoti landing page and changing opinions with the prevailing wind a la Wrathallgate it's all been moving in one direction (not the band that would be too sad).

Obviously he's on a promise Peggy. I believe he will be anointed this week as the end of the 100 day plan. It was obvious something was on offer when Postcode was so easily turned. But the silver lining is he will have to rein in his invective and not very pleasant attitude online, probably stop it all together... that has to be a good thing for everyday communication, considering the number of people, especially the younger ones, that he bullied over the years.

Trouble is ... If he is on a promise, then he's got there by being the way he is, online and off. I sincerely doubt he'd see any need to change his approach. So pBay might become a nicer place again, but other people will find themselves in the firing line.

Then, they must stand up and say no to him, that's how you stop dictators.
The sad continuing demise of the football should help them along.
It's sure to get very ugly indeed if we're going down.

Who knows, but I'm sure it will all come out in the wash this week. We do have football matches to play, and the club has been ruderless ever since Brent took over. In effect, the club has been run for Brent by the stooges Nool and ghoul for a little while now... they come cheap. I expect that to be ratified soon, with other fans to go through the wonderfiul offices of those two. Rather them than me.

I won't believe that he has stepped down and stopped even if he and every other Pasoti mod says he has. How do we know he isn't "Pasotimods" or "Ken Barlow" or "Florrie Linley", or even all 3, anyway? He's got so many IDs on so many sites that he probably can't even remember where they all are to cancel them. I also doubt very much that James Brent would want to lose the control that he currently has either.

The thing is, if he does take up a "position" and it's a position within the club, FAN BLOODY TASTIC!

He's been a mod for far too long and caused mayhem from Saltash to Honiton, bullied when he could and banned when he couldn't, his hyprocy and double standards outstrip that of any loathed polotician and is generally an unliked and disruptive character. Board positions can last months, abusive moderator positions can last for years, as he's proved. There's been a spilt in the fanbase for years, and Newell is responsible for a hell of a high proportion of that, without Newell the fans can reunite and become a force that can influence the club behind a strong and powerful Trust.

Much as I agree with a lot of what you're saying, I still don't think it would be anything to celebrate. Just think what he could do to our club. And those loyal staff - from whom he seems to expect everlasting gratitude - might just wish they'd walked when they had the chance.

i agree fully with you perhaps peace may happen between the forums who knows, However i dont him anywhere near the club in any capacity than that of a fan if indeed the reason he resign is to take up a role.

Peggy, Phenom, I agree with both of you and I think life would be hell for some at the club, but would you expect him to last very long?

Moved by me.

Its another pasoti thread (which I have and will contribute too), but I think block 17 is a better place for it.

I question what the other mods were doing in all of this. Almost every weekend there was a cyber ruck - usually between poster X and poster Y. IJN would wade in as he cannot resist and it would become poster X versus IJN. By the end of the night it would be very unpleasant and poster X would be deactivated for a few days.

The next weekend it would be poster A versus IJN. The week after it would be poster J versus IJN and so and so on. But IJN was always involved. And now it has become almost a daily occurance. If IJN was a normal poster he would have been banned years ago. It was clear the mods had no control over him. Or they didn't think it was a problem.

A sad reflection on Pasoti and a reason why it is in the mess it is in now. I have used Pasoti for 14 years and it saddens me to see how bad it has become.

There's no way he'd be ousted without somewhere else to control being lined up.

I dont think he would leave his 'throne' without having something lined up, the problem is that he's so established on Pbay that posters will still see him as part of the mod team. Do we even know he's gone anyway, how do we know he isn't still using 'Florrie Lindley' as his mossing account?

I agree with Peggy here, where he once spread discord and division throughout the virtual fanbase, will he now replicate his behaviour within the club itself?

He might have had enough of the flak, he might see Noolypoo and twitter as the future, he might have a position of sorts announced on Saturday at the meeting. Whatever position he is given, if he is given one that is , he will probably end up causing more harm than good at the end of the day. It was looking like all was not well behind the scenes at PBay and Daz seemed to be his only ally recently, at least in public. He ended up doing more harm than good and drove a lot of people to this forum. I hope though that we can move on too and let this site evolve as a real football discussion site with the emphasis on football. The opportunity is there. Let's not give too much ammunition to those who see this as purely an anti PBay site.
