Old Gazza was looking well the other day, hope he's over his problems in the long term. Along with Bobby Charlton the best midfield creative/scoring force for England in my time-probably underachieved but not many England players can say that they've played in two semi finals in major tournaments.

Wasn't he playing for Rangers at the time?

It's hard to imagine one of England's best players signing for a Scottish team again.

Hell of a player on his day. I always wonder if somebody (Ferguson?) had kept him off the beer and the fags, whether he'd have got on the end of that cross in extra-time against Germany in the semi-final.

If Gazza had carried on progressing from Italia '90 level we'd have smashed Germany in normal time.

Euro '96 was such a wasted chance. We didn't do that squad justice.

Game 1 - Switzerland - Dire 1-1 draw.

Game 2 - Scotland - Workmanlike 2-0 win which we only remember because of that goal and the identity of the opposition.

Game 3 - Netherlands - Fantastic display of finishing, against a team at war with itself.

Game 4 - Spain - Goalless draw that saw Spain have two goals dubiously disallowed for offside. Won on penalties.

Game 5 - Germany - Entertaining draw against the worst Germany team for decades.

To be fair the Germans weren't that bad. They had players like Moller, Scholl, Haessler and an effective front 2 of Klinsmann and Bierhoff.

Spain should have beaten us. The Netherlands match was decided by a freak period after half time where they conceded 3 goals, up till that point they had been the better side.

Sammer was a brilliant player IMHO. Can't bring myself to say that mincing little shit who scored the winning penalty was good though.

Just saw this little gem - I was there, sat about 10 seats from the top right in line with the shot hitting the net!! My Scottish mate had got corporate tickets unfortunately in the England end - many a knee in the back from the Gas fans behind us as Hendry scuffed the pen!! Good goal mind!!

Whoops, I had it in mind it was Hendry but of course it was McAllister took it - wouldn't have mattered anyhow!!
