| Gary Sawyer returning at the age of 30 does'nt set the pulse racing but hope he does ok for us. I get the sense that any new signings will be of the low cost Brent bargain bucket variety. |

This. Defenders never really get pulses racing when they sign but we know we're going to get a 100%er and exactly that, solid and dependable. More signings now please. Norris would raise the pulse rate but also some 'outsiders', some of this 'fast paced attacking wingplay' sorts we were told Del Bhey plays. Sawyer and Norris don't fit that mould, one never was fast, the other doesn't have young legs any more. |

I Dont see Norris coming back at all but if he did sure he wont be the same high pace attacking minded player as before more the figure head in the middle that can spark a few moves off while the wingers which is what we need. |

| Indeed. That's where players who've lost their pace end up before retirement.
Thing is though to thrive and survive there they need speed of thought and a trick or two, a dropped shoulder here or dummy there. Steve McCall was effortlessly effective with minimal running, Lilian Nalis more recently. The best I ever saw was Jimmy Case at Southampton. Little or no movement but seemed to always have time and space for a killer pass.
My worry with Chuck, much as I totally worshipped the guy, is that his game was all about pace, work rate and bustle. He had skill, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't really a 'thinker', he was more of a 'doer'.
Given the passage of time and the sort of player he was, i'd worry quite where he'd fit in. |

| Norris? Old gits amongst us will remember John Matthews. Walked on the pitch - barely moved from the centre circle - never broke into a sweat - but boy oh boy he could control a game, pass the ball and make killer passes. Dave Burnside, Lilian Nalis .. we've had a few oldies who have been very effective. |

Dave Burnside, Lilian Nalis .. we've had a few oldies who have been very effective. Matthews is another good example. They all share the same characteristics, they're 'cerebral' players not 'grunts', Chuck was a 'grunt'. He was an awesome 'get you out of your seat' grunt but he wasn't a cultured thinker who let the ball do the work, he was an energetic terrier. In a less energetic central role to save him from running I don't believe he'll have the tools in his box to compensate for that inevitable lack of pace. For the record I am not related to, nor in contact with Quinny on PASOTI who, after I'd posted the above about Nalis and Jimmy Case posted this... " Remind me again how old Nalis was when he joined Argyle, Paven? And I remember watching an elderly Jimmy Case play for Brighton many moons ago: his legs were shot, glaciers moved quicker than him, but his footballing brain was a second or two quicker than anyone else's on the pitch". Spooky or common old theft? Either way, yer Case's, yer Nalis's, yer McCall's and yer Matthews' are a breed apart, Chuck was a different breed. |

Cobi your 'sources' are shite 99% of the time! like when Argyle were supposed to be close to unveiling some French former Ajaccio manager, what happened there? Some oik with too much time on their hands and an overactive imagination I think. You should repeat the words of Manuel from Fawlty Towers - ' I know nussssink'. Of course I will wholeheartedly apologise if/when we sign Norris, but I'm not at all convinced with your record on rumours |

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro will join Plymouth Argyle next week after Shrewsbury withdrew their contract offer
Amine Linganzi will also join Plymouth Argyle next week, but Anthony O'Connor will not sign a new contract with the Devon club

| Where will Sawyer play? Understudy to the Three Amigos of last season's back line, or is he just a left-back these days?
Anyway, I always liked him. He rarely looked outclassed in the CCC - I'd have thought League 1 would be his level comfortably. As X says, he's a 100%er. |

This has been exercising my mind actually. If, and I am making several assumptions here, Adams is going to play 4 at the back we already have Nelson, Hartley and McHugh who can fill the 2 required places admirably so if Sawyer has been signed as a CB, and his LB credentials aren't that magnificent, we're looking a little over-manned in that position... Suggesting that somebody may be off. In which case I wonder who? Alternatively I have been told he's been playing in midfield at Orient, no idea if this is true or not, and so he may be here to sit Wottonesquely in front of the back 4. |
