Each of the last 3 Tory PMs has increased VAT.
How can they possibly claim to be the party of low taxation?
I'm happy to wager here and now that VAT increases will be in no election manifesto for the forthcoming election but, if Cameron is PM afterwards, it will be increased to 25%. Also funny how they deliberately targeted things that the poor might like. Static Caravans, pasties. In 1974 the higher rate was doubled to 25%. (Harold Wilson was PM) VAT was introduced in 1973

| The vat was intriduced as a temporary measure in the winter of discontent 1971? at 10% I thought. I remember the wod I was only eight and living in Barum and remember the queues at the garage across the road, the power cuts at christmas (we had to fetch our calor cooker from our caravan and cut the turkey into joints to cook it by candlelight). |
