| Just stumbled across this. Sounds like we are going to be trying to get some regular reserve fixtures next season. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Note that this appears to be an ATD EXCLUSIVE! No sign of this news on the baggo. |

| Mmmm. Better than nothing I suppose but Argyle have fielded a reserve team at that level before and it wasn't really good enough to test players dropping down from the first team-people like Djordic used to get about 4 goals every game and Holloway said enough was enough in the end. Times have changed I guess and we haven't got players of that class dropping down now, may be OK to give the younger players a regular run out. |

they had the reserves playing in two leagues back then the usual one and that one. The usual one was of a higher standard in fairness. Now it will do in lieu of no usual reserve leagues i guess. I dont see why us, exeter, torquay, yeovil, Bristol rovers, Bristol city, swindon, truro and maybe cheltenham dont just form a westcountry league for their reserves to play in. |

| Not sure if this is a good move at all.
As Greenskin alluded to, I have seen Argyle play in these kind of matches before. They are exclusively either A) Too easy and no test or B) A complete dead rubber in which the lack of tempo and atrocious pitch allows no football to be played.
I think Angry's solution of a reserve league sounds a much better option. How hard can it be to self-organise a round robin tournament such as that? |

| It's easy but expensive and time consuming. That 90 miles extra travelling (compared to visiting Exeter from up the line) is a big chunk out of a budget that barely exists to start with. Other teams just don't want to travel as far as Plymouth simply because they don't have to whereas we have no choice but to travel there. In the past we have played "home" games at Tiverton to overcome just this...
And if the pro teams won't play us then what else is there apart from something akin to the Peninsula League?
And why isn't this on the baggo? Shoddy. |

| Do they operate relegation and promotion from this level (subject to grounds etc)?
There are six teams looking for "promotion" into Premier League from West & East Divisions as well as PAFC.
Will Parkway consider us the ManUtdB team that everyone is dead against joining League 2? |

Leagues at that level don't work like pro leagues, you have to 'apply' for promotion if you want to get promoted, otherwise the team that wins the league just stays where they are. Parkway finished top last season but didn't bother applying for promotion, presumably because the traveling expenses in the higher league would be too high. Teams also swap 'across' leagues of the same level quite frequently as the leagues have to be rejigged to take into account of teams going bust and variable numbers of teams being promoted. In short, it's not really equivalent to dumping a host of Premier League B teams in League 2. |

| Surely it's better to send our more promising players to Conference teams so they have experience of playing games that matter in front of interested fans. What will they learn from winning 10-0 against Collompton Rangers every week? |

True, but perhaps we can't find takers for all our young players. Additionally there will be players who we need to still have in and around the matchday squad who aren't getting game time (e.g. the reserve keeper, Blizzard etc) so a match against Exmouth would be better than nothing. |

| Be approved Quote Phil Hiscox The board of the league, at its March meeting last week, discussed the application for Plymouth Argyle Reserves to enter the league. It was noted that they must start at Step 7 (East/West) although could be promoted as high as Step 6 in the NLS in future. The proposal was put to the meeting to accept them into East or West and the vote was duly carried. The normal 2 vacancies still exist for clubs applying from the feeder leagues, and it remains possible if a side gains promotion to the Western League Premier, for a 3rd vacancy to exist by the end of the season when such matters are finalised It have not all gone down well Quote Stuart89 Big disappointment to allow Argyle in. The past history of Argyle in local leagues is not good. They use the local leagues for convenience only and when it has served their purpose they just cut and run. Look at the problems in the past with the Plymouth & District league, the South Western League. They bring nothing to the table whatsoever, no local involvement, always ‘stretch’ the rules for playing matches, put nothing on the gate as there are no real rivalries, expect special treatment, moan about facilities at local clubs as they think they are above it. Could go on at some length – give it two seasons at the most then they will be off if it doesn’t suit them. They will probably get a local side kicked off a pitch in Plymouth, as they will not play at Home park. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| It will be interesting to see who actually plays for the "reserves".
It will not be the Under 18s as they have their own league & it will obviously not be those in the first team matchday squad.
The SWP League East & West divisions is basically a Saturday league, though a few clubs have floodlights so there will be the odd midweek game.
Don't think we have 17 "fringe" players currently not involved on a Saturday? |
