Plymouth Argyle conceded an 85th minute equaliser as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Luton Town in the Central League South at Home Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Midfielder Dan Rooney had given them the lead in the 32nd minute with a close range volley after a pinpoint cross from left-back Ashley Smith-Brown.
Argyle had a strong side, featuring nine professionals, including centre-back Lloyd Jones, who is on loan to them from Luton, Ashley Smith-Brown and Oscar Threlkeld.
Luton, in contrast, had a team made up of academy players, but they made sure it was a close game.
Argyle had the better of the chances overall, with Luton 'keeper Tiernan Parker making a couple of excellent saves in the first half to deny Alex Battle and Rooney.
Parker's opposite number, Mike Cooper, was rarely called into action, although he did make one good diving save from Connor Tomlinson shortly before half-time.
However, Luton drew level in the closing stages as Josh Neufville got to the by-line and cut the ball back for midfielder Hong Wan to fire emphatically past Cooper.
Rooney had a chance to restore Argyle's advantage soon afterwards when he beat two opposing players but his shot was straight at Parker.
Given the strength and experience of the respective sides, Argyle will have been disappointed to have only drawn the game.
