- ARGYLE have signed midfielder Olly Lee on loan from Birmingham City.
The 23-year-old has joined for a month, and will be in the squad for our match against Luton Town on Saturday.
Olly is the son of former Charlton, Newcastle and England midfielder Rob Lee, and the brother of West Ham forward Elliot Lee, who played against Argyle during a loan spell for Southend earlier this season.
Beginning his career at West Ham, for whom his father also played, Olly signed professional terms in 2009, but failed to break into the first team. He had two loan spells with Dagenham & Redbridge - then managed by John Still, who is now manager of Luton - in 2011, for whom he made 22 appearances and scored three goals.
Following a brief loan spell with Gillingham, Olly left West Ham and joined Barnet. After sporadic appearances for the Bees, Olly was signed by Birmingham City first on loan, then permanently.
He made his competitive debut for Birmingham as an 89th minute substitute for the Blues in a Capital One Cup tie against Argyle - just seconds before Lewis Alessandra scored to force that game into extra time. Birmingham would eventually go on to win 3-2.
Olly made his league debut two months later away to Leeds, and bagged his first goal for City the following week with a 118th minute equaliser to force Birmingham's fourth round Capital One Cup tie into a penalty shoot-out, which they lost to Stoke City.
Olly made twenty appearances for Birmingham last season, scoring twice, but having failed to start a first-team game this campaign, will now try his luck with Argyle.
His loan spell is set to run up to, and including, our game at Exeter City on February 21. Olly will wear squad number 21 while he is with us. Dont know too much about him other than i guess he is here to fill the gap left by B.Reid and will probs be kept on if Bobby doesnt come back on deadline day. |
