Was it a vis-hit, or a vi-shit? |

| I went there in March this year and loved it.
See here for things I liked. Sintra is splendid too.

| Fascinating place, specially loved the trams (it's very steep in places). I went by train to Porto which is even better - best bit was the port tasting river trip. |

| Definitely go, it's beautiful. It's seen better days, which gives it a wonderfully melancholic atmosphere.
As someone said above, Sintra is worth a visit for its castle (if you have a head for heights). Also Cascais, the millionaire's resort just up the coast.
The food is great too. And I saw Sporting play a friendly against a Brazilian team whose identity escapes me (I think it was Flamengo). |

| Portugal is one of my favourite places to go in the van, Lisbon is mental, only spent a couple of nights there cos its hard to find somewhere safe to leave the van whilst you go out. Old buildings are wicked, bars are cool, it's illegal not to smoke in a lot of small bars. Fado music is good if you like melancholy, you know real, my missus left me for my brother took the kids then my house burnt down kind of melancholy, I can ate it or leave it. Go and sit in a cafe, have a strong cafe solo a smoke and watch the world go by. Go and have something to eat, Balcalha (salt cod is good) or some kid (cabrito) thou watch out for massive portions you can order a Demi dose of anything (half portion) if you want. Most don't go out to eat until about eight and can stay out partying until first light. Good jazz, jelly jazz, music for most tastes. Portuguese love to have a laugh, good night out. River trip up the Tagus and around the bridges is mental, one looks like the golden gate bridge and the other is huge concrete causeway then suspension bridge that's about three miles wide. If you have time get to Coimbra, small city, great night life in beautiful city. In short go, youll love it. Another popular pastime is to drive out on the old N110 and visit one of the Eastern European girls that sit on white plastic chairs by the side of the road, not sure why my missus wouldn't let me stop and ask what services they were offering, they are popular though. |

| If you want to go to Coimbra, the trains will get you there and back in a day. Hotel Astoria on the Mondego river (as is all of Coimbra) is well worth a look if you like art deco (?) architecture. ps, the Mondego is the only river whose source is in Portugal. |

One ninja star ( ) to the ATDer that can name the combination of two discontinued cars that that river was clearly named after? |

| I hate Montegos. My first ever car (a Mk 1 Fiesta - ACV 288T) was driven into overnight by some pillock in a Montego once. |

| And don't forget to have an Augadente with your coffee, bartenders will probably offer limoncello, which they seem to think is our national tipple or something, but if you wink slyly and make a tipping bottle sign with your hand, forefinger extended and point UNDER the counter with your other hand it may produce the required result. |
