Plymouth students left with "no real answers" after meeting with university bosse

Quote

STUDENTS at Plymouth University felt “disappointed and let down” after questioning bosses on the suspension and subsequent return of the vice-chancellor.

About 100 students gathered on campus on Monday for a heated question and answer session with interim chief executive David Coslett, chair of governors James Brent and Richard Stephenson, deputy vice-chancellor for student experience.

Those present accused the panel of failing to properly address the reason why Professor Wendy Purcell was absent from the university for more than four months.

A student reported Mr Brent as saying: “The reason the vice-chancellor took leave is a private matter, it’s not something we can go into, it’s something we do have legal constraints responding to

Writer for the Student paper claims to have been pressurised against stories about cuts and overspending.

Quote :
“David's answer smacks of a rehearsed statement to ensure the damage control to the university's reputation is minimal - but his defensive attitude means it is having the opposite effect.

“David cannot honestly say that they have been ‘as open in the media as we can be’ when students have still not been told why their vice-chancellor was placed on leave or why even really she is back at work without them having a say in the matter.

“The lack of transparency with their defensive attitude seems like they have something to hide, it is only a matter of time until we find out what that is.”

Can you not read any article on that website without being bombarded with ads and dialogue popping up all over the place. It really is an unwatchable experience. Fecking hopeless, which fits in with what the Herald has become.

Is James still Chair at Uni?

Article in Herald today about group oflocal MP's calling for transparency (is this the new imminent) from the University Board around spending and governance makes no mention of him.
