Nah Quest, anyway that's a bit unfair on Swilly, it's only like that on bonfire night.

Earlier this afternoon, I saw some storks/cranes flying to their Summer destinations.

Seems a bit early. Do they know something we don't??

My in laws love in France sort of middle toward to east and the storks fly over there, apparently it's been 30c for the past few days but freezing at night, it's usually well cold now although all the lakes are still frozen. They said its weird. Don't know if they have seen any actual cranes.

Been looking to buy a keysafe box for my Dad so a carer can let themselves in to sort him out in the mornings. Went to a medical equipment supplier and they wanted £137 +VAT for one that is all singing all dancing and approved by the Police and insurance companies. Been online today and found exactly the same one for £59 including VAT with free next day delivery!

Just got to fit it when it arrives.

Washing machine is proper dead. Barely out of 12 month warranty too. I'm more than mildly miffed about this cos I should have read the small print more closely when being dazzled by the 5 year parts warranty. It's only valid if you use Hoovers own engineers that will charge you £120 labour for any parts that need replacing. Robbing cnuts. The main panel is fecked so gonna cut my losses, bin it and just get a new one for £199.

In other news I've just had proper porridge. Lovely.

I have had two Ariston washing machines that between them lasted 23 yrs.....and that is in a hard water area as well.....had to replace the second one last year (still working but looked rather grotty after so much use).....never had to repair either but.....they aren't made anymore.

Nearest I could find was a Hotpoint 7kg.....they supposed to of taken over Ariston so I'm told.....going well at present....too much digital control on it personally.....just extra things to go wrong ....but ok at the moment.

One of my neighbours has a Miele. Paid top whack for it, about £800 I think, but it comes with a comprehensive 10 year guarantee! He fuckin loves it, but he's a bit of a big girls blouse tbf.

Cars and technology is the same. If they're new and under warranty and have all the latest gadgets its fine, but when they're a few years old and start going wrong they just become a money pit.

I'm feeling your pain Czar, for two or three weeks my computer laptop internet machine thingy has been playing up, last wednesday it gave up the ghost completely, can't be much more than 3 years old and about £400 if memory serves. My technology expert(son) looked at it for the 3rd or 4th time before breaking the bad news, it's fecked and would probably cost as much to repair as to get a new one. I himmed and hammed, do I spend another £400 on a similar setup or weigh in a grand plus on the old apple variety, didn't really want to do that so asked the bhey to keep his ear to the ground and have a scan around to see if he could come up with a decent secondhand option. Yesterday he got me a 2 year old Acer laptop with according to him a very good spec and in pristine condition for £100 Very Happy He's set it all up for me and installed everything I need and it's running well as I type, I've no idea how long you can expect these things to last but for £100 I don't really care !!!

Asti is back, Asti is back, hello, hello cheers ................what have I missed ?

Join he Ace(r) team Asti. Very Happy

I got mine a couple of years ago now and all is still tickety boo. As a general rule of thumb I'm happy to get 4 years of good performance out of a lappy. After that all sorts of gremlins seem to get in the machine, battery life diminishes rapidly and it's time to get an upgraded model. I'm still running Windows7 on this one, can't stand the Windows8 operating system and for that reason my next lappy will be a Mac, foreshore.

So with an average shelf life of 4 years this one should hopefully be good for another 2, I'll be happy with that and with the speed of technology there'll probably be something completely different out by then, microprocessors implanted in your ass cheeks and a screen implanted in your retina cyclops

Recycle all your self destructing crap by throwing it back through the shop window from where you bought it, I'm going to call it horizontal side cycling.

Have you joined the Cornish liberation front or something? You're so anti everything these days. laugh Actually, I'd like to throw my shite laptop back through 'Comet's' window - if they still existed! Laughing

BTW, Asti - don't do a Newell and join the Apple bandwagon. I think they're worth enough as it is (£7.2billion). Lenovo, or as Czarcy says, Acer, are decent mid-range machines. Unless that is you fancy a go at Apples OS.

Overpriced I'd say Ork, they may be good quality but £1200 or £1300, feck that, a good £500 of that is just for the Apple logo I reckon, a sort of deluded status symbol. This new Acer machine seems good so far and like Czar I've stuck with windows 7, it works well for me and when I saw windows 8 on someone elses machine I didn't like the look of it. As for the Apple OS, I wouldn't know where to start with it, is it totally different from the Windows OS ?
