Just had a peek at the farm as I was feeling quite strong this morning and read this thread..........

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

It seems to me that once again it's a case of the chicken and the egg. Players aren't going to want to relocate down here on short contracts, low wages and have to travel long distances by coach to virtually every away match.

When Holloway was here and it looked like we might be going somewhere, the players came. It was the same with Sturrock, at a lower level. Of course. We also had an airport then.

Now we have no airport, no ambition, a barebones fanbase, a part derelict stadium, an inferior youth set up and a bucket rattling culture led by wannabe someones' at a football club.

Hardly attractive unless you're fairly desperate.

It could be so much different. Imagine Plymouth as the garrison football fortress of the beautiful southwest peninsula, with good transport links, a solid fanbase of 20k even in the lower leagues like at Norwich and Southampton [and soon to be at Swansea and Hull etc]. The city of discovery ! The Ocean City ! set amidst an area of outstanding natural beauty !
Who dares come into the lion's den and poke him in the eye with a stick ?!

This bloody heat is really getting to me.............................

That last big paragraph is exactly the vision the club should be aiming for, the vision I dream of for Argyle. If you have no vision or just aim to be top dog in the lower leagues, or just be better than little Exeter you just end up drifting, never capture the imagination of the people of Plymouth and surrounding area.

But that seems to be what a lot of these backward ignorant muppets want, be what you have always been and 'bumble' around in the lower leagues. That last bit was acfually what one high profile pasoti mod said a while back, he's just happy to see Argyle bumble around the lower leagues and reach the championship every so often.. I'll never understand that mindset.

Why stifle the clubs growth and potential with a pathetic boxed in ministand when the club could be so much more than a southwest gillingham or carlisle, no disrespect to those clubs. I havent looked at that pasoti thread, just too depressing tbh although location is something argyle have to contend with in player recruitment I just see some posters using it as another excuse why argyle shouldn't even bother trying,  with no solutions offered only moans. Moreover some people seem to be under the misguided impression that everywhere other than the southwest is a 'GNS', dear oh dear

The transport links you refer to Tring are outside of Argyles direct control, but ensuring the stand when it's built gets HP up to 20k minimum and the club focuses on producing homegrown players are achievable aims which would be the first step in making that dream/vision you refer to, a reality.

Well reality is a dodgy owner who is clearly some kind of control freak, a ground that is 2/3rds complete depending on some kind of corporate low wage paying corporate trash to come in and bring in the already overweight families to eat and drink even more crap.
A manager who is doing his best but is clearly working with one arm tied behind his back from a board with no vision or ambition. And last but not least a disaffected fanbase who a sizeable majority think that finishing in the top 10 of league2 is pretty decent, and of course Brent saved the club.
Yep another season of Brent led crap and inward looking fans chanting "super luke".
Can't wait for the new season. bom

Agree with all the above, Its going to be like this for years until someone with money and vision buys the club, it will probably be non league by then. We could easily be next seasons Bristol Rovers.

Its the sheer ignorance of many of the core 6,000 fan-base that gets to me.
The one's that regularly attend then look down their noses and sneer at anyone and everyone they don't recognise when the crowd rises above 8,000.
They just see a new grandstand that holds 3,500 as 'something is better then nothing' they are incapable of seeing the bigger picture because they are ignorant, arrogant or thick, maybe all three.
They don't care about the long term future of the club as long themselves and their like-minded ilk can get in and watch a big fish in a little pond all their lives then so be it.
Im ok, Feck the rest mentality.
Unfortunately for the good guys among the 6,000 it's the Ian Newell's and the Chris Webb's who have the ear of the Chairman, albeit for mutual gain for both parties.
Property developing asset stripping chairmen and adoring ignorant Avivas......a lethal combination.

It will be alright when we build HS2, one of the most enviable public transport links in Europe appaza, oh no that doesn't get to here either does it?
The feckin airport has been mothballed so that SHC can get houses built on it, government should step in and they should hurry the feck up with sorting out the old GWR link through Tavvy. It's getting more and more like the third world down here every year, you can't hardly drive on our roads because of the potholes to boot! Even glam cam had to cut his holiday to Kernow short because he didn't get any mobile signal LMFAO before I cry.

If a club has ambition and drive to succeed then players will want to be apart of that to further their own career aims and dreams. That applies to any club up and down the country not just to plymouth, Our sales pitch needs improving but to be honest Brent has pretty much said publicly we are a League 1-2 club for life now so no wonder players dont want to come here from up north.

Besides on top of that handicap of Argyle's its not just the crap transportation links to the city (sort it out PCC and government) that's the problem either (it affects Albion, Raiders and Devils aswell)... What is here that you could tempt someone unsure of the move down here with a family? its not like we have a buzzing night life or a decent town centre not to mention alot of decent job opportunities within the city or its boundaries. The utter bollocks that's this ocean city crap its only a summer thing too. So here also we will struggle to attract the likes of abbey clancy here to this void when she could stay in an area thats in the 21st centruy.

If we were a top Championship club or a Premier League club, location would not be such an issue!

It would be if you want comparable players. Man City have to pay more to attract players from London. What you have to do is dispel attitudes. If a player has a family why not invite them all down during negotiations and take them on a tour of the SW? Show them the schools, book in meetings with the head master. Have a property search agent tied o the club who can show you where and what your money will buy.

Loads can be done. It would help if there was someone experienced in marketing etc on the board but that prick still hasn't removed his head from sand.
