| Fixtures seem to have been decided early- - pafc.co.uk wrote:
- Swansea City visit Home Park for a tea-time fixture on Sunday, July 27, two weeks before the Pilgrims’ Sky Bet League 2 campaign kicks off.
The Swans are one of six opponents lined up for John Sheridan’s side, who have one other home match with league opponents before the season – against League 1 Yeovil Town on Wednesday, July 30.
The Pilgrims’ pre-season campaign begins at Langsford Park on Tuesday, July 15, when they take on Carlsberg South West League Division 1 East side Tavistock.
Four days later, on Saturday, July 19, they visit Calor League Premier Division Weymouth, before a trip along the Devon coast on Wednesday, July 22 to line up against Skrill Premier League new boys Torquay United at Plainmoor.
Their final fixture, a week before the season starts is also against Skrill Premier League opposition in the shape of Hereford United, who Argyle visit on Saturday, August 2.
There are also two reserve-team fixtures lined away to Calor League Premier Division teams: Truro, on Thursday, July 24, and Bideford, on Tuesday, July 29.

| I will certainly be baptising my two against Weymouth. The boy (5) wants a Chelsea kit and the girl wants, unlike her father, to support in her words "some team that makes me happy"
Ungrateful fuckers. They're coming to Weymouth. |

| It's a shame we weren't finishing the friendliest against Swans and Yeovil. The other matches are all run outs but not really testing. The pre season has been shite for years and has led to stuttering starts lets hope we hit the ground running this season. |

| My son's U10 academy team has a more glamorous preseason fixture list...
In all seriousness how can some of those teams be classed as a decent way to build up to the season? |

| It's crazy up here Elias, couldn't go anywhere yesterday without people talking about it! I remember Plymouth being alive as a city though when it was our day and how people did of en masse, but of course they were plastics not fit to watch the same team as the super fans and a lack of investment at the right time and to be fair what has always been a fairly exclusive "I support argyle and therefore I am a better football fan than you" mentality made sure most of them drifted and stayed away.
On a brighter note I'm off to Wembley although I really hope derby don't lose as family life will be miserable for a while as they are all convinced that they are going up!! |

....or a spanking that neither helps develop shape or morale. I agree there's been little in the way of 'names' down at Home Park for many years, but what really do we gain from playing teams at a far higher level than we're going to face in league 2 next year? I recall coming down to see the Real Oviedo game many years back. I also recall the team trudging off at the end absolutely f**ked having run round trying to chase players far better on the ball for 90 minutes. They lost 4-1 in the process. How did that help league preparations?, the whole point of a pre-season friendly. |

| As a trade off with demoralisation and dislocation from the standard they need to play against I'd rather pass and send them to do a weeks training on the moors with the Marines instead. |

| Catch 22 situation isn't it.
Play Div2 or non-league and it's moan,moan,moan......why don't we play better teams.
Play a mid-table premier club and it's moan,moan,moan....what good will that do us.
Entertainment watching a well drilled out-fit would give the fans something to enjoy.
The players will get over it, they're pros aren't they.....and if they do well everyone wins. |

| After we give Swansea's under 11's a proper pasting it will be joy unconfined and unanimous predictions of a record points total championship winning season...until we get stuffed by the mighty Hereford. |

Yeah.. That way they will be nice and fit and have the feeling of smug satisfaction and tremendous confidence in Argyle beliefs despite having played to a draw at home against St. Agnes 0-0 |

How did that help league preparations?, the whole point of a pre-season friendly. A few extra thousand on the gates. |

| I ran at a fairly decent standard, my training partners for events were always without exception at a slightly higher level than myself, it's standard practice in all sports, to improve you must be tested. |

Slightly higher? Swansea are considerably higher I'd say. Elias is also correct in saying the gate argument is flawed. A top five/six team maybe, but they all play their friendlies in the far east nowadays. |
