| The NEW ERA for English cricket started yesterday with a merciless destruction of international foes Scotland. England have managed to MOVE ON from their winter nightmare and have begun a CLEAN SLATE - the cleanest slate possible following the sacking of the side's most successful bat, with the same captain, the coach still employed by the ECB, an old coach brought back in to coach, and just one new cap introduced to the side. Err...CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN FFS The ECB have asked to "re-connect" with fans and are going to use the media. The media are not trusted by fans as they have been COSYING UP to the ECB for years. Sri Lanka and Inja to come. |

| Off to the Oval on Thursday to watch the day/nighter. 12 noon boozing commences followed by a curry between innings. Hoping the weather holds. Also have tickets to a number of the Friday evening Surrey 20/20 games. Perfect. Couple of glasses of chilled white on the South Bank and a game of cricket on a summer's evening. |

| I, ahem, played today.
22 runs and a wicket to boot!
Took advantage of their fat 'spinner' before they brought back the opening pair and bowled me first ball.
My wicket was the classic attempt to smash it out the park but got completely the wrong length, spooned to midwicket.
I don't have any more games lined up. |

| Day One of the proper stuff. half tons from Bell, Prior and Ali (alimost) compliment a Root ton.
Still can't help but feel that KP would have cashed in big time. |

Still can't help but feel that KP would have cashed in big time. Been idly watching but it doesn't feel that "proper", dunno what the real batters were doing cos that attack looked pretty pedestrian, KP would in all prob have had a triple, interesting to see what England's quickies can do, good to see four of them and a proper spinner. |

| The England quicks did...not a huge amount. They plugged away.
The pitch is stale.
Unsure about the return of Plunkett, but even in that final session he was hitting 92-93mph so he's obviously got some oomph in him. Can't say I'd be particularly enthused about any of Bresnan, Woakes or anyone either.
If England can wrap the tail up in the morning, they could still force a result, but I'm not sure Cook will be overly adventurous when declaring. |
