Can someone explain what is meant by this term ? I take it its condescending but am confused as the opening welcome on this site welcomes ALL Argyle fans irrespective of their commitment etc. Isn't using a term like this in a derogatory manner about fellow fans a little bit strange ? Penzance Pirate has described me as a Jester - does this have the same meaning ?

But to answer your question, An Aviva is someone who supports argyle through thick and thin to the point of geekiness (nowt wrong with that, every club has em and they are needed), on the flip side they belligerently defend a certain perspective towards the club to the point of outright hostility to those who disagree in the face of glaring evidence that they are wrong. In olden times they are the sort that would have burnt you at the stake for suggesting that the world was round.

I'm afraid I've only really ever dug 'hot rats' and 'apostrophe' Zappa for beginners I'm afraid. Some of it is a bit too 'out there'

I agree,it isn't all that helpful but i would say that it reflects deep rooted and strongly held views on both sides of the Argyle outlook and that it isn't banter at all.Hostility is engrained deeply on both camps and won't go away in a hurry,unfortunate though that situation is.

I think a lot of it is clever or funny, and quite often both. I wouldn't really argue the case for 'big', but 'positive'? I think negating a bunch of the tripe sprouted by some, is very positive!

Tring or freahty or both in fact i believe coined the phrase during the time the club were going to unbelievable lengths to milk that advert to death ie merchandise on sale and some posters on both sites seeing the advert for more than it was. The old saying was Giant Pasties and Aviva adverts for all

Bit like the term Bwana, which was coined as an African insult to white men, but became an honourific.
