As for porn, what has that got to do with anything. That is quite a different subject, and again unhelpfully blurs sexual opinon, making a link between the homosexual and porn thing.

Sorry Pete I was not being ironic, are you saying that Tis hasn't crossed the line of decency with his posts last night?

I do find some of LT's posts well written and humourous, others are a bit lame but i suspect that could be said of most of us.
Have i ever been offended by any of his posts ? No.
Would i have been offended if i were gay ? Don't know, maybe.
Does LT get offended by being called a racist, homophobe or Excretia fan ? He doesn't seem to.
Are we in danger of over sanitising ATD ? I fear the answer is yes.
It's not hard to find something, somewhere offensive if you look hard enough, we all have different tolerence levels as to what we may or may not find distasteful.
Let's use the old pub analogy again, do we want to be a pub where builders, cab drivers, binmen and a few Arthur Daley/Jack the lad type characters drink and feel comfortable talking about pretty much anything and where they are only told to shut up or shown the door if they go well overboard or do we want a pub frequented by ladies and gentlemen in business suits where no bad language or bawdy discussion is tolerated ?
I suspect most on here would want something in between the two, personally i'd be closer to the first pub rather than the second but everyone's choice would differ and that's good, if we all had the same opinions on the same subjects life would be boring.

Anyway, enough of trying to express my opinions, i'm sure some will try to pick holes in what i've said but in my opinion bans and suspensions should be used as a very last resort.

Ironic on not I don't think it's over sanitising the site but allowing people to claim that aids is a disease of gay people? I was always under the impression that it was a disease of unsafe sex and sharing of needles?

Yep, can't disagree with you on that one, i missed that and as you say it crosses the line and is factually incorrect, AIDS affects people from all walks of life.

The fact that Jock has deleted his account over this has a bearing, I don't want an over sanitised site but I am already aware that the site is too much for some posters to even join what I don't want is for the site to lose more posters and just end up with the extremist point of view. Dressing extremism up as irony has sadly passed me by.

Personally, while rather distasteful I do not consider it worth a ban or even a suspension.

Over his time on here, following mod-room discussion, Jock has been contacted a number of times asking him to tone his comments down - more so than anyone else. He ALWAYS responded positively and accepted the implied admonishment. He has never had a tantrum in response to these PMs. Beneath all the bluster & the OTT posts he is an intelligent gentleman.

The ATD constitution says that all views are accepted as long as they are expressed within the law & common decency.
