Plymouth Argyle still waiting on word from out-of-contract Onismor Bhasera
PLYMOUTH Argyle are in the dark about the future of their player-of-the-year Onismor Bhasera.
The Pilgrims offered a new deal to the out-of-contract Zimbabwe international at the end of last term.
However, they have not heard from Bhasera since then and pre-season training starts tomorrow.
Under Football League rules, Argyle's offer to Bhasera – who has been at Home Park since March 2010 and made 114 first team appearances – expired on June 1.
Herald Sport understands Argyle manager John Sheridan spoke to Bhasera's agent after that deadline and said the League Two club would be willing, in principle, to extend the offer, but has had no contact since.
There has been speculation about interest in Bhasera from several clubs, including Bristol City and Oxford United, in recent months.
Argyle's new offer to Bhasera will almost certainly have been on reduced wages compared to his previous contract.
That was agreed in August 2010, when the Pilgrims were in League One, and had recently been relegated from the Championship.
Winger Andres Gurrieri is set to put pen to paper for Argyle tomorrow when he reports for the start of pre-season training after a summer spent in his homeland Argentina.
Gurrieri, 23, was offered a new deal by Sheridan at the end of last term.
Argyle are also close to sealing
two new signings, with midfielder Dominic Blizzard expected to be one of them.
Blizzard, 29, was released by newly-promoted Championship club Yeovil Town earlier this month.
He made 47 starts and 15 substitute appearances for Yeovil in all competitions during two seasons and scored five goals.
His time at Huish Park was hampered by injuries and illness, however.
Blizzard missed out on a chance of being involved in Yeovil's League One play-off final win against Brentford at Wembley because of a stomach bug.
Argyle have a fortnight until they play their first pre-season game, away to Elburton Villa on Tuesday, July 9.
Sheridan is busy trying to add to his squad, having already recruited goalkeeper Luke McCormick, versatile attacker Lewis Alessandra and striker Reuben Reid – the latter on a long-term loan from Yeovil – this summer.
Blizzard started his career at Watford, turning professional in 2002, and played 36 times at first team level, netting three goals.
He later had two-year spells at both Stockport County and Bristol Rovers before moving to Yeovil in the summer of 2011
.
With pre-season about to start, goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin has left Argyle by mutual consent.
Gilmartin, 26, signed a two-year contract with the Pilgrims last summer after arriving from Watford.
He made 16 appearances last season but ended the campaign as number two 'keeper to Jake Cole.
Gilmartin was subsequently put on the transfer list by Sheridan, along with striker Nick Chadwick.
The Irish shot-stopper can now find another club after severing his ties with the Home Park outfit.
Sheridan has replaced Gilmartin with the re-signing of former Argyle 'keeper McCormick from Oxford United.
Meanwhile, winger Paris Cowan-Hall has been linked with a move to Argyle's League Two rivals Wycombe Wanderers.
The Pilgrims would be entitled to a fee for 22-year-old Cowan-Hall, who is under contract to them until next summer.
Cowan-Hall signed for Argyle from Surrey part-timers Woking last summer and made 45 appearances during the 2012/13 season, scoring five goals.
