full time in hours but not full time in days. ie you werent at college monday to friday more 2/3 days in that week and had half terms off. which is why they are not full degrees meaning if you want to have a full degree you do the final year f/t in days n hours at a uni.
I did a foundation too i know what im talking about.
Sorry, but I'm not completely clear what you are saying. Are you suggesting that 'proper' degrees mean you are in the uni every day and without half-terms?
If that's the case, degrees have never been that nor should be. I've done a FOundation Degree and a final year at uni the difference between teh two is FD are 9-5 on set days with days off from college and mainly at colleges while at university the time table is more scattered around monday to friday. Universities have reading weeks colleges have half terms. |

Sadly, that's not how it works nowadays. Very sadly. My daughter finishes her degree in a few weeks (and is then moving in with me ....... anyone know any good job in Plymouth for a young educated wanker?) and she has never had to attend lectures more than she had time to learn 'on her own'. Maybe she's been at an enlightened uni or is lucky with her course. But, as far as I can tell, none of her house-mates have had to be 'taught' the majority of their courses. The world is as it is no matter how much I bang my head against a wall. I think the trend towards functional degrees is awful. And I blame Thatcher for it. Anyway, if that degree course run in conjunction with Argyle & Marjons brings more money to the club as opposed to being diverted elsewhere, it's a good idea. Maybe it could go where the cinema is proposed to be. |

| PS What's the difference between 'reading weeks' and 'half terms'? Is it like when I was in the 6th form & a teacher said to us, "You're not on a free period - it's a private study period"? It made no difference to what we did. |

Its more of an administrative thing I believe depending on the degree . Some reading weeks happen at the end of term. Some degree courses don't have them at all. |

Nothing really. I had reading weeks and these coincided with school half-terms. Part of the reason for this was that it allowed mature students with children to have no lecture/seminar commitments during the school holidays. It also allowed me to get really drunk and not worry about falling asleep the next day in a lecture. My fees were £1000 a year back in 98-2001. I find the current fees an absolute disgrace. I have a degree from Exeter - it's now £9000. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]My three year course would have put me £27,000 in debt. Full time means you do 18 hours a week of designated study - I.e. lectures and seminars. |
