A social event that's put on as a prelude to an Argyle home game, and 25% of attendees go home after it's finished rather than going to the game?

That has to be the most damning indictment of the current state of our football club. Pasty, pint, a bit of Rick and Dave, then off home/Drakes Circus or even Albion, rather than watch Argyle.

I am genuinely, genuinely gobsmacked by this. Of the 200 that go to the Fansfest tomorrow, 50 won't go to the game. If they're all adults, thats £1000+ down the Swanee. Unbelievable. And yet still people try to say that there's nothing wrong with the football on offer.

That's where you and I would propably disagree czarky. The modern age is actually closing down drinking hostelries, not opening them... most people do it at home these days. Not that I've a problem with a new up-to-date "match day" facility, but there is a worry for me that Brent and maybe Argyle would want to turn the land into a 24/7 facility unsuitable for a park, and unsuitable in a residential area that has no licensed pubs at all ... Peverell is a dry area... and gawd knows we need some in this city.
I'm a regular daily user of the park, and it is a park, not some shopping street like Mutley to turn into yet another Babylon boozing strip. Only Plymouth could turn the Barbican into what it has become.

If that's the case then an apology will be forthcoming. However I do know that a number of people go to the Fansfest but not the game, so I will reserve judgement for now.

I think the demand would most certainly be there on a matchday, Penz. I don't think you can compare a proposed facility attached to the stand with the standard pub in the street. If Brent did it properly, and made it adaptable enough in terms of it being able to cater for events (and be a proper revenue stream) during the week, I don't see that as being too detrimental to any green space in the park.

But as I say, I would go big. Bolting on some sort of fanfest or Far Post extension would only make for a continued clique situation. The fanfest regulars are all now pretty much on a first name basis. Same faces, same seats, same pasties etc. By the same token, the Far Post crew could probably be identified by the shape of the indentation their arse makes in the seat, when they get up to empty their bag.

A bar something on the lines of Shearers at St James Park, would be a massive draw, and if done properly, could be a focal point for many hundreds of fans.
