Argyle appointed John Deehan on Jan 25th this year. With him as director of football we played 19 games with a record of:
Won 5, Drawn 9, Lost 5. Points 24.
Deehan was 'let go' at the end of the season. Fletcher then bought in a number of new players. We have since played 19 games with a record of:
Won 4, Drawn 6, Lost 9. Points 18.
So despite our transfer activity over the summer, and our 'competitive budget' etc, we are actually demonstrably worse than last season (once you remove the pre-Christmas period where we didn't have a proper squad). Furthermore the removal of Deehan looks like a bad move as even with more time and resources to improve the squad since his departure, we have actually got worse!
The record with Deehan isn't exactly spectacular (1.26 pts per game), but given we stayed up by 2 points last season (avg 1 pt per game over all) Deehan might well have been the difference that ensured we stayed up.
