| Can't see how this can possibly be anything but good news. It's showing a bit of the ambition, drive and attempt to get money in to move the club forward that has been called for.
I invite anyone to tell me the fans will call it by its official name with a straight face. Imagine it: "Ere Dave, you in the Lyndy for tomorrow's game" "Nah mate, it's the FES Dem'port stand for me"
We fans will still call it its usual name, the club gets some more income to be reinvested (note it goes to the club not Brent and the land he owns around it) and possibly half of it will go to the staff too. Not 100% sure if it will actually go down as budgeted income mind, this could have been in the pipeline for ages. |

| During the administration process, I read countless posts from fans that were afraid of their lives that we musn't change the name on a peice of paper at Companies House in London, and if we did, it would be the end of the world..... and Argyle supposedly. And yet these same fans welcome the renaming of their 'Argyle neighbourhood' and don't even mind geographical relocation if neccessary. The franchise generation. As with everything these days at Home Park, all these sort of anouncements are small politics, small money, and overpublicised tinkering showing which 'unwalleted ' people are getting their feet under the table in the new way of doing the same old business.

Fair point, we relied on the contacts that were clearly already there. Still it's better than nothing and it's essentially money for nothing. |

I imagine a quick phone call would have done it: "Nikkk, we really should do something for you to acknowledge all the money you've stumped up via the auctions. Would it be ok if the Devonport End had your company's initials whacked on the front of it. FES Devonport End ok by you?" "Yeah fine. I've just found £5 grand down the back of my sofa. Got any signed shirts you don't want?" |

| It's extra money, and like just about everyone has said, it will still be the Devonport End. I do wonder why the person who owns FES doesn't just ask to invest money in the club. How about £400k for let's say a 20% stake with no place on the board? Maybe the owner of FES, whoever he is, has already asked and been rebuffed. I wonder if he's a Trust member |

C'mon Mike, you wouldn't know a hippy if you came across one, or a commie for that matter.... still looking for the beads and red flags probably. Just because it rains in Greece for a few days, it doesn't mean it's an unpleasant climate... there's no harm in bending when the onshore Med wind blows ... it never lasts long. The Totnes community understands only too well the damage these boring monoliths cause. Probably still the best selection of tea houses and day time cafes in the county, and now even more likely to remain so. It is the way forward, whether you like it or not. In the meantime, get yourself down to that Morrisons ... they must serve tea. |

Do you not agree? Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the commercialisation of football, we stand a greater chance of success by getting more money. Crude simplification but still true in essence. I can't help but feel the club would have got a lot more criticism than this if it came out that they turned down an offer of sponsorship. And again, can you really imagine the average punter calling it the FES Devonport stand? Criticism where it's due, but also praise where it's due. I think this is a way of getting money into the club coffers (not Brent's pension fund) without it affecting the fans in any real tangible way. |

| There's another thread going on about somebody failing to market the club. That was wrong. Here is a thread about part of the ground being marketed. This is wrong. Or is it that whatever the club do it's wrong? Personally I can't ever see a problem with bringing in cash to the club in these circumstances. It has always been the Devonport End and always will be to the vast majority of people no matter what anyone pays. This is hardly going to shatter the earth is it. |

| In economic terms, I believe long term brand loyalty and reputation bring in far more money than the odd crass renaming for a few grand that often irritates a section of the customer base. Just an opinion from a baby boomer. Professional football, more than any other, is a tribal business. I don't see Buckingham Palace calling itself the Burberry Palace... any fans out there who love the idea of the FES Devonport End but would dislike the Burberry Buckingham Palace ? Think about it.... |

| All I know the first time I see a ticket with FES Devonport End on it I'll feel a tad sad. In local terms the Devonport End it the most iconic and legendary (overused word I know) part of the ground. And I give a feck. |

| I don't give a feck what they call Buckingham Palace either. I doubt anyone would stop going to their local if they renamed it from Dog N' Duck to Duck N' Dog. Incidently how many Cardiff fans now boycott the club known affectionately to the locals as "The Bluebirds" now they play in red? |

- I know to date I have just been here mucking about with auctions and stuff but for some time it has been on my mind to discuss that going forward and particularly following the feeling following last nights game, maybe the way forward would be to step back several years, and I appreciate not perhaps relevant with todays "big clubs" with "big owners" but we as a club should put together a board of directors with maybe 6 or 7 Directors all of whom can offer personal substantial bank gurantees or lump sums and thus move into safety with the budget to" buy" safety from "disaster" James has already made it clear what his limits are but perhaps there are are a few that could do this. I personally do not think it would take a busting amount of cash to buy safety. Anyway would be delighted to help personally and surely there are a few other genuine Devon/Cornwall business people who could form a board. Ok maybe not suitable for the big time but sufficient to ensure league survival ? Maybe talking nonsense and perhaps I should just bid on shirts but cant help feeling this is the way to go today !
