The Beatles (had Saturday jobs at marks and spencer) Freddie Mercury (regular at zero's im told) shane richie (slept on a bench once waiting for a bus) kelly brook (regularly down the fish market)
feel free to add to the list

There's already far too many silly bollards on the Hoe. How about a benchful of people who really irritated Plymouth Celebs:-
Fletcher Christian Petra Schneider George Riley

This is going to be sent to about 1,600 people (I presume in the local area) for them to vote on a ballot paper.
I've got a few more suggestions.
William Friese-Greene (once had a place of work in the now Two Trees pub on Union Street) - he was a cinema pioneer and created a type of celluloid to enable cinema to actually happen. There's a heritage plaque up on the wall by the pub.
Wayne Sleep (born in Percy Terrace in Lipson and is the cousin of my mate Keith)
George Passmore (won the Turner Prize in 1986) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_%26_George

I think we need something more Statue of Liberty style, a giant Old Mother Hubbard statue over on McCauley Island.

Diabolical?
A man of principle who represented the country's Labour movement.
And the man whose drive in the post-war years contributed a huge amount to the rebuilding of Plymouth.

This is well worth a watch if you haven't already, with a very young Micheal Foot in parts. Excuse the public school educated Janners, I never knew that dock workers could afford to send their kids to public schools!

His biggest let down was his attachment to CND, for a large majority of the public it was a non starter. It didn't help having that raving loony from Liverpool forcing his hand either.

I never agreed with some of his policies but met him a number of times at Reading matches. A lovely man to talk too.

Robert Falcon Scott was born in a house that used to stand on Outland Road. Yes, that's right, Scott of the Antarctic was born in the shadow of Home Park.
