At North Corner Devonport

THE descendents of the daring Royal Marines who would later become known as the Cockleshell Heroes are expected to join veterans at a wreath laying tomorrow.

The Royal Marines Association Plymouth and District Branch will conduct the Act of Remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at the Devonport World War Two Memorial at North Corner

The association will be joined by representatives from the Special Boat Squadron Association and The Royal British Legion.

Lord Mayor Vivien Pengelly escorted by police cadet Lauren Peel will lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Plymouth.

It is hoped that  Plymouth and the nearby residents will join us along with the descendants of the Cockleshell Heroes.

The local public house The Steam-packet Inn will be open.

A proper Commando raid that the modern SBS base one of their main tactics on - deployment of troops from a submarine in small boats. What made this mission particularly perilous was the fact they could never be captured and expect to live due to the German High Command orders to treat Commandos the same as saboteurs or spies i.e. interrogate then execute any captured. Indeed that was the fate of those who were captured.
