Plenty of Mackerel about, we started catching (was a lot of smallun's) then we had a huge shoal right under the boat and the Bass were hammering them! By the time I had a Joey on a freeline we saw about 100 5-10lb Bass cruise past and away! I had a couple of nice Sardines to finish with, just about to fire up the Barby.

Barby was bleddy great, like Spain last night, like Devon this morning, the stars last night were unbelievable, Maccy and Sardines with a fresh loaf of bread and a salsa verde with fresh herbs out of the garden mmmm. |

Just read the last bit of your post out to the wife Iggy and she said "add a bottle of white wine in and life doesn't get any better than that" Glad you enjoyed. Tight Lines...

Bastards! All I can get is expensive stuff several days old and out of a freezer from Tesco or Morrison's! Oh for a nice fresh bass or a superb mackerel not aware that it is out of the water yet. I'm sorry I split this thread now. I had a nice home-made smoked salmon quiche with local salad. It was good but .......

Would have thought so, it's a cartiligenous fish the same as Bull Huss, otherwise known as Rock Salmon or Rock, got to keep it for 24hrs because it stores it's urea in its blood (which tastes of piss funnily enough) which breaks down in 24hrs and then the fish is lovely! Skate is in the same family btw.

I used to eat a lotte (pun intended) of monkfish but it's a threatened species now. Huss is what I use instead if I see it fresh. But now I've read of the urea ..... not too fresh!!!!

At certain points in history, you always know where you were when it happened eg. Kennedy assassination (for the dinasaurs), Twin towers coming down, etc. On a summer night in August 1997, we were on an all-night session at Slapton Sands. It was shite (as usual), dogfish, dogfish and more dogfish. But as always it was just an excuse to get wrecked under the guise of a fishing trip... At first light, we decided to put the feathers out, and got stuck into the most rediculously large (and stationary) shoal of mackerel less than 30 yards from the shore. A veritable frenzy ensued, and before you knew it, the beach was literally jumping with mackerel. Six of us throwing out the feathers and pulling in a string of four, without fail, every couple of minutes. Quite an achievement when you've been drinking and doing bongs literally all night, I can tell you. This went on for about 45 minutes. Bin liners were then filled, and we made our way back to Plymouth. We had way more fish than we knew what to do with, so if you lived on Albert Rd Stoke at the time, and woke up to find a fresh mackerel under your windscreen wipers on your motor - we did the whole street, about 50-60 cars - yep, that was me. Sorry. To cap an eventful night, I got in and put Skysports news on, and this was scrolling along the bottom A night I'll never forget, that's for sure!

Wasn't the crash caused because some fecker covered the windscreen with mackerel juice?

I haven,t been fishing but this morning I was watching a Seal chase and catch a Garfish, it took 100yds but she nailed it. Then we were watching a couple of Basking sharks and we saw a trio of Chough,s and a Peregrine, the boats were out of Sennon and were fishing for Squid, is it worth having a go for Squid out of Plymouth? Anyway, lovely morning, sea was oily calm and met some nice people on the cliff.
