Feeeney Committed to Argyle Empty

Another strange non-story in the Herald with Feeno saying that he would put playing for Argyle before playing for Northern Ireland (he has 46 caps affraid ). Only thing is the new manager, Michael O'Neil, has not selected Feeno for any of the 3 games he's been in charge and Feeno hasn't played for his country since Oct 2011?

Good one (anyway) Feeno!

There's only one Feeno

Quote :
Warren Feeney has admitted his focus is on playing for Plymouth Argyle rather than extending his international career with Northern Ireland.

Belfast-born Feeney has been capped 46 times by his country after making his debut in 2002.

But the last of those appearances came in October 2011, when he was a substitute in a 3-0 defeat away to Italy in a Euro 2012 qualifier in Pescara.

Feeney has not been involved in any of the three matches since Michael O'Neill took over as manager of the national team.

Northern Ireland start their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign on Friday, when they play Russia in Group F at Lokomotiv Stadium, Moscow.

That is followed by a home game against Luxembourg at Windsor Park, Belfast, on Tuesday, September 11.

Had Feeney been selected for that doubleheader, he would have been absent from Argyle's trip to Devon rivals Torquay United on Saturday.

Portugal, Azerbaijan and Israel are also in Group F with Northern Ireland, and only the top team are guaranteed qualification for Brazil in 2014.

Feeney told Herald Sport: "My main focus at the minute is Plymouth Argyle.

"Don't get me wrong, it's good going away (on international duty), but Plymouth pay my wages and I want to prolong my club career for as long as I can.

"First and foremost, Plymouth Argyle is where my heart is."

He added: "Imagine going to Russia? It would be a tough one. It makes the trip we had to Burnley (in the Capital One Cup) last week look easy!"

Feeney, 31, signed a new one-year contract with the Pilgrims in the summer.

And he opened his scoring account for the campaign with Argyle's first goal in the 3-2 win against Northampton Town at Home Park on Saturday.

Feeney has had some communication with O'Neill, but not recently.

He said: "I spoke to him a few months ago, but, at the end of the day, I'm not worried. That's his decision.

"I have got my caps and nothing is going to change that. I will just carry on playing for Plymouth Argyle and enjoying my football."

Meanwhile, Argyle are close to selling all their allocation of 1,590 tickets for the clash against Torquay this weekend.

Only around 110 terrace tickets remain for the Devon derby, priced at £18 for adults, £13 for over-65s and students, and £6 for under-16s.

Contact the Argyle ticket office (telephone 0845 872 3335) for further information.

Nick Chadwick has also stated he doesn't want to be considered for England squads from now on, to concentrate on his Argyle career.
