Played for us twice, I think. He also played for Derby against us. Good keeper but he went moved the money was & who can blame him? Yes thats right, wasn't it a cup game and we scored straight from the corner at the baseball ground? No, come to think of it that was a different game? _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! No, come to think of it that was a different game? No that's the right game Mouldy, FA Cup Quarter-final replay. He signed for us a while later and him and Crudgington fought over the keepers position for a couple of years. I was a Steve Cherry fan over Crudgington anyday. |

- With ref to Alan Nicholls lets be honest guys the lad was a knob of the highest order.
Only got in the England U21 Squad off the back of a reference from Shilts and he blew it. I remember reading an article by Jamie Redknapp who was also involved in that particular squad and they nicknamed Nicholls "No Brains" or something along those lines. He was not the most popular amongst the Argyle squad either from what I have been told.
As for the best keeper I have seen at Argyle I would go with Alan Miller closely followed by Rhys Wilmot.
McCormick and Ro were probably the best No.1 and No.2 keepers Argyle have had on the books at one time. Seriously, who cares what Jamie Redknapp thinks? It was obvious to anyone who knew him that he wasn't the full penny but I saw him play many times and he was fantastic. Keepers aren't generally the most popular members of a squad and are often seen as outsiders and slightly crazy (well you'd have to be). The man had a raw talent and need guidance and I'm not sure people like Shilton were the best people to have around him (at that time). The lad was a breath of fresh air for us fans and to call him a knob is a downright disgrace. Just my opinion like! If you had nearly been mowed down by him in his VW Golf whilst he was exiting the old Mobil garage by the Drake Cinema(Now Casino) as I was then you to may have come to the same conclusion as me regarding his personality Chingers. I agree he had a raw talent but I dont believe he would have had a prolonged football career. What happened to him was a tragedy however it didnt surprise me at all he was a ticking time bomb sadly.

| Wow that is some grudge. Let it go! Plenty of sports people are on a rocky road until a mentor gets hold of them. Clearly he didn't get that or if he did, he chose to ignore it. Either way its very sad. I'm sorry he nearly mowed you down but at least you get to tell us the tale. RIP Alan. |

| Are you a bit too young to be a Dave MacLaren man GS? For me he set the standard for all that followed (I'm sure MY elders and betters would refer back to Bill Shortt).
I was astounded when we lost 6-1 at Bolton one year, but the gossip was he'd just found out the manager (Big Mal) had been a bit too friendly with his missus. Oh for the pre internet days when gossip was proper gossip. |

Oh for the pre internet days when gossip was proper gossip. I can only remember McClaren very vaguely Charlie,i started going in 1964,can just about remember the league cup semi final against Leicester, but not much else.I've heard people say that he was very good though and also about Malcolm allegedly showing belly buttons with his missus, which would be no great surprse in all truth. My dad and granddad said that Bill Shortt was excellent too and Les Major was also highly spoken of by them. The first keepers that i can really recall were Shearing and Leiper [both prone to odd howler],the first one that really made an impact was Pat Dunne. |

I remember McClaren from my early days at HP and Noel Dwyer, whom I seem to remember quite often was rooted to the ground as a shot sailed into the top corner.Happy Days. Anyone remember the tapped penalty under Allison ? We did score but how bizarre was that ? |

| Will you lot feckin shut up about your Dad's telling you about things that happened yesterday as far as I'm concerned. I used to get to my position to bang the advertising hoarding behind the BP goal by about half one so was in prime position to gasp with amazement as that pen went in. |

Well to cheer you up I can remember seeing Bill Shortt playing many times, including 4-0 wins over Liverpool and Everton. Keepers in best first order. Bill Shortt, Dave MacLaren, Martin Hodge (first spell) Melia Aleksic, Jim Furnell. |

I 4-1 would love to have him replace our donkey, that low profile enough for you ? not a subject for banter you sick cnut, Who's bantering Mikey ? The young man made a stupid mistake, he has paid the penalty the law ascribed and should be left to get on with his life, the point of my comment was that a goalkeeper playing for a shit club like thine or mine does not have a high profile job, the only sickness around here lies with the media whores who follow him around to get that photo when he is supping a pint. If you find that offensive then there isn't much I can do other than to suggest that you get some help with the anger management or work on the IQ a tad. |
