After seeing Spain's goal tonight I don't understand it and fear that my feminine side is taking over!
Can anyone please explain why the "passive (offside)" player was not offside when a forward pass was made to him, hence making him active?????

He was behind the player who made the pass, says he confidently having watched the other game and just seen a glimpse so you might be talking about the first phase, then again maybe not. That any help Moist?

When the ball was first played forward to Iniesta Iniesta was level with the last defender and so was onside. Navas at this point was in an offside position but because he was not the one the ball was passed to he was passive and so did not count. Iniesta then squared a pass to Navas for Navas to score but Navas was behind Iniesta when the pass was played and therefore was not offside when he ran onto the ball to score.
