I saw Dalglish leaving the car park up at HP yesterday, apparently he had parked in someone else's space though.

Nothing to do with football but Michael Owen WAS in Plymouth about a month ago. He bought a house in one of the streets opposite Drake barracks. We guessed that it might be for a relative either going to college/Uni /Navy. Apparently he showed no signs of doing a detour to HP.

He reckons he can still do a job in the Premier League, I doubt it myself. He's injury prone now, has lost a bit of pace and hasn't got the desire he used to have. He's heavily involved in horse racing now though and has a big interest in Tom Dascombe's set-up in Cheshire. I think he had the stable purpose built and only uses one trainer for his horses. One of his horses came second in the St. Ledger last year, which is one of the 5 classics, although in fairness it's the least important one, but it shows how serious he is about his horses being able to mix with the Arab billionaires and the Coolmore mafia from Ireland. He had two winners at Royal Ascot last year and that's no mean feat, but footballers and horse racing have always had close links, maybe due to having lots of time on their hands after training, so find themselves down the bookies. Mick Channon is as prominent a trainer as he was a footballer, Frannie Lee trained to a high standard for a while, and Mickey Quinn is still training now, albeit at a lower level then Mick Channon. Lots of footballers and managers own horses, Sir Alex owns a few pretty decent horses and was given a horse to part own as a gift by the Coolmore team, Rock of Gibraltar, and it raced in his colours, obviously red and white. It turned out to be a much better horse than the breeders thought and won 5 Group One races in a year, including the Guineas in England and Ireland, and when it was retired to stud SAF wanted his share of the breeding rights as he said the horse was given to him as a gift. The Coolmore lot said it was given to him as a gift while it raced only. The stud fees can total millions of pounds as they just keep banging away for years and years and it can cost in the region of £50,000 to have your horse mated with a Classic winner. Wayne Rooney has just had his first runner as an owner, I think with Tom Dascombe as well, probably through the Michale Owen connection, but unfortunately for Shrek his horse finished last Owen could do really well out of tapping up his mates and persuading them to buy horses to be trained at his stables. Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman used to have a couple of decent jumps horses that ran at the Cheltenham Festival, and I know that in the past any prize money they got was not highly taxable due to a tax loophole. I think it may have been scrapped now but it was a tiny amount compared to the income tax they have to pay. It's an expensive business to be a big owner in, and my guess is he's so involved in it all now that he wouldn't play on for much longer, especially if he can't get a deal with a fairly big club. I can't see him doing an Alan Smith and play in League One now that he has such a big hobby.

Never say never, Owen bounced back quite well for Man U at first. He may not be top PL club standard but he may just slot into lower PL club spot. His biggest problem is staying free from injury.
