Here's an interesting one for all you statto's.The last 8 games of Argyle's promotion winning season in 1958/59 went as follows;

1-0
1-1
1-1
1-1
1-0
1-0
1-1
1-1

And Sturrock's success in 2001/2 was built on the back of 11 1-0 wins and 6 0-0 draws.Luton were a far superior footballing side to Argyle,very easy on the eye,but still finished second.Could be a moral there somewhere.

The moral Greenskin is that it is points on the board that count in any competition run over 46 games. Success has absolutely nothing to do with how pretty you were in getting those points. The biggest cleche in football is that it is a results based business and 46 results at 1 - 0 would mean you won every game and got maximum points. Winning 3 - 0 or more for half of the games would mean you were a long way behind. The question is would you want your team to play that way and abandon impressive performances in football spectacle terms. Probably not but you would forgive it if you won every week as every supporter just loves a winning side and promotion above all other things.
