| I think the next three days will decide whether Argyle stay up or not.
Sell or offload the wrong players (Hardie, Whittaker Edwards) or get an average player in and I can't really see Argyle beating the drop.
The current squad isn't as good as we had last season and with the Club's over reliance on loanees we risk another "January recall" disaster-image losing Cissoko Gyabi and Obefemi.
On the other hand keep our key players and add a quality CAM (signed not loaned) and we should have a chance of finishing outside the bottom three. But some/most of the summer signings don't fill me with confidence out our recruitment standards.
The "Rooney effect" certainly doesn't seem to have got through to the players and many fans are starting to realise what a mistake his appointment is.
A bad result on Saturday and I can see a similar reaction against him as there was against Foster.

I don’t think Rooney will get the Foster treatment this early. If we get to the latter part of September and Rooney hasn’t started to prove everyone wrong, then that’ll be the time I reckon. Our squad as a whole just doesn’t look good enough to get regular wins in the Championship - regardless of who is on the touchline. We’ve had 3 winnable games on paper, and got 2 points. Gonna be a long season. |

| Not sure anyone will leave for a fee, apart from maybe Whitaker. If that does occur hopefully it's a proper fee, not the 'couple of Amazon vouchers and maybe some cash later' we got for Cooper.
If that happens, my concern is the quality of the recruits. There's no doubt that the players that we have bought in look by and large either not good enough or no improvement on last season. Very telling that 10 of the 11 players starting the last league match were here last season (albeit Gyabi has had to be 're-signed'). Only Cissoko looks a potentially good acquisition. Other Championship clubs have been loaning from top prem sides, while we've been loaning from other Championship sides, which seems to signal what our ambitions are regarding player recruitment. The loaning of our own players has been equally poor. Bernhard and Matthews sent out to lowly Tavy the day before the new season started felt like a 'will this do' move. Baker sent to Parkway and then recalled because of the Cooper debacle.
If we did get >£5m up front for Whitaker, I'd worry we'd just bring in a bunch of journeymen with 'good stats', especially given the limited amount of time left in the window. I'm no fan of the Rooney appointment, but he isn't being helped by the transfer policy (which I think is Dewsnip's area).
1) We need to use the 2x loan space left to bring in Schumacher-style quality youths from the Prem, plus hopefully a couple more purchases. Think we need an Attacking Midfielder and some better quality in defence/defensive midfield (and a replacement for Whitaker if needed). 2) Baker and Jenkins need to be loaned out to make room, Roberts & Earley too when they're fit.

| Sadly, I think we are on the way down.
Lost against an average Stoke team today and never looked a threat going forward. In the bottom 3 after 4 games without a win.
Sure we have still got MW but (like the loan players) knows he won't have to hang around if we go down.
Our hopes now seem to be pinned on al Haji being a successful signing but the odds are against that as of the 8 summer recruits only Cissoko and Szucs looks to be an improvement on what we had before -- at least a couple looking well out of their depth.
Talking about "out of their depth" I've seen nothing to indicate that Rooney has the nous to be a decent coach-he's persisting with a formation that doesn't suit the players and he's clearly unable to make telling changes during a match.
I think that unless he can turn things around after the International break he'll be spending Christmas at home with his family |
