Pilgrims versus the Hatters Empty
PostSubject: Pilgrims versus the Hatters   Pilgrims versus the Hatters EmptyTue Sep 24, 2024 4:40 pm

An interesting summary from the Interweb

Plymouth Argyle

DDLLWL
Plymouth Argyle will be hoping to return to winning ways here following a 1-0 Championship loss in their previous game against West Bromwich Albion.

In that game, Plymouth Argyle had 51% possession and 16 shots at goal with 4 of them on target. West Bromwich Albion had 17 attempts at goal with 4 on target. Josh Maja (62') was the scorer for West Bromwich Albion.

It has been a rare occasion in recent games that Plymouth Argyle have kept a clean sheet. In fact, Plymouth Argyle have been scored against in 6 of their previous 6 clashes, shipping 8 goals along the way. However, we’ll just have to find out whether that pattern might be maintained in this upcoming match or not.

Coming into this fixture, Plymouth Argyle have left without a victory over Luton Town in their last 5 matches in the league.

Luton Town

DLDLWW 🌤
Luton Town will go into the match following a 2-1 Championship win versus Sheffield Wednesday in their previous game.

In that match, Luton Town had 59% possession and 15 shots at goal with 4 of them on target. The only player to score for Luton Town was Carlton Morris (77', 88'). Sheffield Wednesday got 12 shots on goal with 6 of them on target. Barry Bannan (52') scored for Sheffield Wednesday.

In the course of their six previous matches, Rob Edwards's Luton Town have seen their efforts on goal rewarded 5 times therefore yielding them a goals scored per game average of 0.83.

Coming into this fixture, Luton Town remain unbeaten by Plymouth Argyle in away games against them for the last 4 league games. A very decent away record against them.

👥 Head to head
Checking on their prior head-to-head clashes going back to 24/10/2015 shows that Plymouth Argyle have won 1 of these games & Luton Town 3, with the tally of drawn matches standing at 2.

An aggregate of 15 goals were scored between the two sides throughout the course of those matches, with 4 for The Pilgrims and 11 being from The Hatters. That is an average goals per game value of 2.5.

The last league clash between these sides was League One match day 36 on 09/03/2019 which finished with the scoreline of Plymouth Argyle 0-0 Luton Town.

The match was refereed by Darren Drysdale.

🗞️ Team News: Plymouth Argyle
There is just the lone fitness concern for the Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney to contend with from an otherwise complete group of players. Conor Hazard (Ankle surgery) is out of contention.

We are thinking that The Pilgrims may well kick off with a 4-2-3-1 formation in the match and select Daniel Grimshaw, Joe Edwards, Kornél Szűcs, Lewis Gibson, Bali Mumba, Adam Randell, Darko Gyabi, Morgan Whittaker, Adam Forshaw, Ibrahim Cissoko and Ryan Hardie.

🗞️ Team News: Luton Town
Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has not got a full squad to pick from. Jacob Brown (Knee injury) and Tom Lockyer (heart problems) are not ready for selection.

We reckon that The Hatters seem likely to elect for a 3-4-1-2 system, going with Thomas Kaminski, Reece Burke, Mark McGuinness, Teden Mengi, Reuell Walters, Marvelous Nakamba, Liam Walsh, Alfie Doughty, Jordan Clark, Tahith Chong and Elijah Adebayo.

🔮 Prediction
Our thinking is that Plymouth Argyle will have a tough ask to register a score against this Luton Town side who we think should manage to get a goal of their own in a winning performance.

We’re therefore anticipating a hard-fought 0-1 win for Luton Town at the end of this game.

Will be interesting to see how this one goes.

I reckon we will win 2-0

Luton come to Home Park after two good wins on the bounce away to Millwall and home to Sheff Wed. Think we'll play well again but lack of chances and inability to convert the chances we do create will mean we'll come away from this one with only 1 win from 7. Which is very worrying.

I fancy us for this one tbh specially at home with the 14 odd thousand sucking the ball in the net as well
This is where with gotta start picking up the points at home if we’re gunna have any chance of staying up ..cos we can’t seem travel for shit away from home plus there’s a few hard away games coming up at Burnley & Blackburn respectively
Hopefully we put on a good performance for the sky cameras ..well better than the last time we were on sky at sheff wed ..us 2-1

Rooooooooooneh!

Well deserved win, should really have put the game to bed in the first half but three superb goals from Hadj and the wonderfully talented Cissoko did the trick. Luton were very long ball and huffed and puffed with about 40 corners resulting but they didn't really trouble Grimshaw much until Moses showed a bit of class to make it a bit nervous for a while. Gibson was fecking awesome tonight and it was his tenacity which set up Cissoko for the clincher-thought Tijani made a difference when he came on,gave a decent option up front as an outlet when Argyle were under pressure. Couldn't go tonight, wish i'd been there because the atmos sounded great but three points and a great performance will do very nicely.

Went last night obviously more out of hope than expectation. But could never have expected that! Great battling performance all round. Rooney is making the players work v hard which is great to see and also getting them well organised. Al Hajj is deffo the Azaz type player we have been crying out for - terrific goal too. Was disappointed to see Cissoko only on the bench but Rooney knew exactly what he was doing. Brought him on just at the right time and he looked like he really wanted to prove himself with sublime skill for his first and Argo's second and what would have been a carbon copy for his second and Argo's third but for a block but he did brilliantly to pick the ball up again and roll it past the stranded Luton keeper. Great night! Brilliant atmosphere too.

One thing though, it's getting increasingly difficult to see Hardie scoring from open play this season.

Seems to have changed style and has been more of a penalty box creator this season than the off the shoulder of the last man player of recent vintage-set up Cissoko for the Hull goal, won the penalty against Sunderland and nice lay off for the Hadj goal on Friday. Rooney influence possibly?
