PLYMOUTH ARGYLE V BARNSLEY FC
Attention now turns to the real stuff and Argyle manager Steven Schumacher will be able to call upon six new signings for the new season.
The permanent signings of Matt Butcher (Accrington Stanley) and Mickel Miller (Rotherham United) have been boosted by the arrival, on loan, of Finn Azaz (Aston Villa), Bali Mumba (Norwich City), Morgan Whittaker (Swansea City) and Nigel Lonwijk (Wolverhampton Wanderers) as the Greens look to build on last season's seventh place finish.
Steven Schumacher is hoping that Argyle’s first game of the 2022/23 season will be the stuff of dreams. (Green Dreams)

Going to be an extremely tough afternoon but Argo have just about enough to force a very hard earned 0-0.

No idea how good this recently relegated Barnsley side are, but taking into account pre season performances recent signings, I think we wil get someting from the game. COYG

Tbh I fancy a 1-1 draw but on the pepsi Pete I’ve gone 2-1 hoping home advantage and a big home crowd can sway it our way hopefully

Barnsley like us are .good solid defensive unit, yet like us are a bit shy of strikers ATM (according to their forum anyway) going for nil nil.

one additional prediction i will make on top of the one i made iinthe forecasting thread
blocks 3-4 and 17 will sing the same 5 chants ovah and ovah and basically be even more of a shit noise center that they usually are this season.

I see all the happy clappers in the Devonport have their little flags That's it wave them for the camera and sing the same 3 songs you always sing. But only if the drummers there.

Anyway it's turned out nice in Plymouth today Great to be back in my normal but non faded green new seat.
Haven't got a flag mustn't be happy clapper worthy.

Be another frustrating afternoon
But think we should nick it. New players look better then the old.

Good performance. Enjoyed that. Stylish play Plenty of chances the main positive. On another day we'll score five

Imagine the view you'd've had if it was situated in bobbys bombsite Ivor.
Clean sheet, 3 points, not a bad performance but chances squandered could've been costly. Barnsley very poor and luckily also failed to convert the chances they had but overall a deserved win.

Thought we would sneak the win. They were awful.
Worrying we had 19 shots and only won 1-0 Need to be more ruthless got a week to work on that

First half we were excellent, second half they changed it but we weathered that, tired towards the end which I guess is understandable, the new players were very good, definite upgrade on last year. Downside I guess are the missed chances, should have scored 4 or 5 but it’s the first game and sharpness perhaps not quite there yet, a better team than Barnsley (who were very poor) could have nicked that but all in all a good afternoon

a good win for us. Very lively in the first half took our foot of the gas somewhat in the second but never looked too bothered by Barnsley. Very impressed by the new Mayor role that works a treat for him and Azaz is going to be a cult hero here he is really good and took his goal very well. Hardie worked hard in his new role with Mayor and Azaz alongside him still needs to take his chances better as again he had a clear shot on goal and took too long and too many touches to have a crack allowing the goalie and the defender chasing him down to intervene. If that trio clicks and Hardie takes his gifted chances more scoring goals wont be a problem for us. Not convinced if anything happens to Hardie Jephcott or Ennis would be able to score the goals to make good on mayor and Azaz ground work so come January one i feel will be moved on to bring in another striker.
Mumba looked great playing at LWB but i think hes going to be a target this season as he gives me the impression he will react too much if he gets leaned on by the other team looking for freekicks or his sending off. Butcher played well alongside Randall leaving it a task for Camara to get back in that team now should he still be here after the window closes, Houghton too will have to step it up.
Defence had a few iffy moments due to communication between each other and getting caught out few tiomes due to barnsley attacks when they ran at them but that aside they still did the job needed.
overall good start to the season, clean sheet and 3 points cant go wrong with and as a bonus 14000 plus in attendance and blocks 3-4 and 17 didnt let me down and still cant sing anything new to save theirs lives lol.
also having seen the frame work where the new tv screen based on first impressions that seems too small to be showing footage that everyone will clearly see if the tv they arent using zoom in features on key moments. But we shall see when its up and running.

Thought that was pretty good overall. We looked confident on the ball and caused them all sorts of problems with Mayor and Azaz coming from deeper. Mumba looks a real find and a word for Gillesphey who came up with a couple of great blocks at crucial times.
Yes, we should have won more comfortably, but a couple of the best chances fell to Edwards, and on a different day may have gone in.
3 points, clean sheet, can't ask for much more.
