The EFL has moved its scheduled 3pm fixtures next Saturday to avoid clashing with the funeral of Prince Philip.

The EFL wrote: “As a mark of respect, EFL matches scheduled for 3pm on Saturday 17 April will be moved to avoid a clash with the funeral of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The EFL will now work with its clubs to determine at what time the matches will be played, giving consideration to the timing of the service. An announcement will follow in due course.”

The media can only cope with one story at a time these days, first Brexit, then Covid and now Phillip. Seems a bit mental to me, why can't we just do our normal game start? You know take the knee, round of applause for carers, minutes silence for Capt. Tom then go on with a concert and service for Prince Phillip.

changing the kickoff times causes a lot of upheaval and if the fans at home want to watch the funeral they would do anyways regardless if they kicked off at the same time as prince Philips low key funeral or not its not a given everyone wants to watch that funeral especially when the news channels will be doing 24hr feed to it. Its just not needed to move games around at all especially as the duke himself stated he wanted no fuss or bother.

Argyle kicking off at 12.30 instead of 3.00 isn’t going to send me into a blind panic. Each to their own though.

What you’ve also missed Angers is whether you get it, or not, this is quite a significant point in history, and games being moved is a mark of respect from the Football League.

if it was a state funeral you'd actually have a point to your heavily sarcastic comment but as its a scaled back low key funeral on the wishes of the duke and keeping with covid restrictions its not necessary taking those factors into mind as its not a state funeral like we would normally see to move or delay anything in order for people to watch it as again they are home in the first place and would either watch it or not regardless so doing this want bump up any ratings for it.
