- We are delighted to announce a strengthening of our relationship with city neighbours Plymouth Parkway.
Having worked closely with the Bolitho Park club in the past few seasons, the Pilgrims have agreed a mutually beneficial long-term arrangement.
Argyle will support the Western League Premier Division club through an annual pre-season friendly for the next two seasons at least. In return, the Pilgrims' under-18 home fixtures will be played at Parkway’s ground.
In addition, the clubs have agreed to work together on player development opportunities, including loans, where applicable, and exit pathways for young players leaving the Pilgrims’ Academy.
As a part of the agreement, the first of its kind, Argyle's Academy will provide an ongoing and comprehensive educational and professional development programme for Parkway staff and players.
The new long-term deal is the first of many planned by the Pilgrims under the stewardship of director of football Neil Dewsnip, with the club’s strategic plan to strengthen relationships and development opportunities in Devon and Cornwall beginning to take shape.
Neil said: “We are delighted to have enhanced our relationship with Parkway – a local club that shares in our ambition for the future of football in the city. We feel that the relationship will be beneficial for both parties.
“Enhancing our profile at both first team and Academy levels is a hugely important part of the club’s ambition to become a sustainable Championship club, and forging strong networks with good local clubs is an essential part of this process.”
Plymouth Parkway chairman Mark Russell said: “We are delighted to have continued to build on our relationship we have with Argyle, this opportunity is valuable to both clubs.
"Over the coming months and years we look forward to utilising the benefits of this agreement with Argyle, and also working with Argyle to support the Under-18s at Bolitho Park.
"The annual pre season friendly is massively important to our club and helps the club to continue to grow.”
This agreement signals the Pilgrims’ intent to develop relationships with all clubs in the region, with focus being placed on producing more first-team footballers from local young talent.
With this in mind, we are now welcoming conversations with prospective partner clubs in Devon and Cornwall. For more information on Plymouth Parkway, visit their website. This seems alot of hassle for an agreement for our youth team players to play at their ground in return for two friendlies in two years with the first team. I dont see how we can benefit much form this in truth didn't we have a loan deal cancelled by the fa because parkway were too far down the football pyramid? |
