Boro’s preparations for the new season continued in earnest in Plymouth on Thursday with a training match against the League One side.
Having beaten the Pilgrims 1-0 at Home Park earlier this week in a pre-season friendly, the two squads came up against each other once again in a training ground contest designed to get more match minutes into the players.
Once again, driving rain was the order of the day, making conditions difficult, but match fitness was the priority for Neil Warnock and his opposite number Ryan Lowe, with the season opener just over a week away.
Warnock was able to utilise his squad to the full, ensuring everyone time on the pitch in another important step towards the new campaign.
The 3x30-minute contest saw Jonny Howson, Stephen Walker, and Marcus Browne on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win that ended in absolute monsoon conditions.
Boro’s workload continues on Friday with another training session at Liskeard Athletic’s Lux Park ground before the squad return to Teesside on Saturday.
