Barry Fry insists Peterborough United and League Two side Plymouth Argyle are ‘well apart’ on their respective valuations of midfielder George Cooper.

Cooper has been a big hit on loan at promotion-chasing Argyle this season scoring three goals in 31 appearances despite playing much of the season as a left wing-back.

Posh paid Crewe £300k for the 23 year-old in January, 2018 and would expect to at least recoup that fee.

But Plymouth, while keen on the player, are yet to get near that valuation.

“We are well apart on numbers,” Fry said. “George has been excellent for Plymouth and they are keen on him, but they’ve not come up with an acceptable offer yet.

“It’s difficult because of the uncertainty surrounding all football and Plymouth will probably have to wait and see whether or not they are promoted before they can budget for next season.”

Cooper scored on his Posh debut, but has always struggled to hold down a regular starting place.

He’s started just 16 games for Posh, scoring five goals. He is still under contract at Posh next season.

Won't be easy doing an affordable deal for Cooper with Barry Fry, being a hard nosed geezer.

Is he really worth £300k? That's about 12 Sawyers.

Worth a punt at 200k if we could get him for that, inconsistent but undoubtedly blessed with some ability/talent from what I've seen and relatively young I believe.

No way is he worth 300k, Posh have proved that themselves because he couldn’t get a game for them, 100k tops but I don’t even think that’ll happen either in the current climate

Give it a couple of months and Posh will be desperate to get him off their wage bill.

Same thing can be said about at least half the players at every EFL Club.

Anyone know what the position is with loan players, furlough and salaries? Can PAFC furlough players like Hardie and Cooper, or is it up to the parent club to decide? And who is currently paying the salary of loan players, the parent club or the borrowing Club? Can Clubs decide to terminate loans early, or on the date originally agreed when the loan was set up?

I’d go to £150k for Cooper. On his day he’s excellent but there’s a reason he’s currently playing in Div4.

Seeing tweets, in the past, from Argyle fans to Darragh MacAntony (Posh Chairman) about Cooper, I think Posh want more than the £300k they paid, so are probably looking around £400 -500k.

that guys living in a dream world and likely see Cooper walk for free or a very reduced prince in the final year of his contract.

I dont see argo or any other EFL club paying a transfer fee for years, its going to be a bleak struggle for survival for most.

Agree Suffers, I think the likes of Barry Fry need to take a reality pill.
