Out of interest I did try and google best Argyle players as a start but as the opening link came up with David Friio at number 1 I gave up |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Typical Herald hyping up bollox no doubt in the current circumstances, but I think Lowe probably is on the case in terms of proactively checking out players, but then I guess he has time on his hands. I think the data recruitment idea is another sign the club is moving forward in terms of professionalism, from the dark days of you know who. |

| I was thinking if you knew the years/ seasons then you could look at the teams for the names Grovehill mentioned like Kevin or Sutton. _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! | Just looked on GOS.
Dave Sutton - played for Argyle 73/ 74 - 77/ 78. Went to Huddersfield Town.
Kevin Smart - played for Argyle 76/ 77 and 77/ 78 seasons. Went to Wigan Athletic.
Both were Apprentices.
Are these the ones you were thinking about Grovehill?
Thank you GOS. _______________________________________ I'm one of the common people so says the wife! (A true GSG Girl) PepsiPete Forecasting League Champion 2016-17 He was behind me at Charlton! - Becoming a sustainable championship side requires at least one of these two components.
1. Investment wealth via the club ownership to retain and add to the best staff.
2. A top flight history and resultant developed fanbase.
If a club doesn't have '2', it must have '1' as in the case of Bournemouth, they didn't need the inspiring stadium / gate receipts. With a latent fanbase, like we have,if they see that the owners have what it takes, they will turn up. If not, as with Srapes and co, they get bored with championship and drift away.We are not alone in this but we are the last of the big city clubs not to make a move. My hope is that if SH can get us to the championship, he will either have enough money himself to finish the job, or be prepared to attract someone who does.
What about
3. a decent recruitment policy aimed at young (teenager or even younger) players--certainly works for that team up the A38
But you wont have analytics on yougsters, just need to have a decent scouting system and contacts.
In Tony Waiter's day Argyle probably had a dozen players who progressed to the First Division. Of course and we have Plymouth and Cornwall to ourselves. Once identified, it's holding onto them for long enough through an excellent coaching set up that's vital, and being viewed as a big, or even working toward being a big club will retain the best talent for longer. |
