| Not a bad performance from Argyle and a deserved win.
Orient were dreadful and time wasters too.

That Danny Mayor is some player. The two goals were ok and job done. Reading at home is winnable. |

He certainly is, agree it was job done, first half seemed like a practice game though. |

| Well, that wasn't too bad. First half was ok, we had a lot of possession without looking too dangerous although we did at times, open up Orient's defence with ease, mainly through Mayor cutting in from the left. Probably should have been a couple up at half time, Taylor missed a free header and Mayor's cut back after some terrific play on the left was missed by everybody. Second half, the two quick goals ended the game as contest, both were well taken and came as a result of some quick passing through the O's defence. The disallowed goal for offside was the move of the night, 5 or 6 quick passes getting the ball wide right, great ball in by Riley and finished well by Moore. Didn't look offside but couldn't really tell from where I was.
Going through the team, Cooper had almost nothing to do, but kicked well, and played the ball out rather than hoofing. Defensively, they looked strong although Orient were poor. The new Grant from Chelsea looks a player, strong and quick, a good addition. Canavan and Sawyer solid enough, but both lack pace. Both wing backs got forward well, and Riley, in particular looks a much better player in that role. MacFadzean (sp) took his goal well. I like Edwards in the middle, links play well, he went off to be replaced by Baxter who also did the job well - looks a stronger player if I'm honest. Up front, Mayor has a touch of class, carries the ball very well at pace and can go around players as though they're not there. He's no Carey, but a different type of player and he'll get goals and assists throughout the season. Telford was a handful all night and his pace leaving defenders for his goal was superb. Moore when he came on also has pace to burn and was unlucky to have his goal ruled out. Taylor started up front and did ok, brought players into the game, and should have scored. Don't think he'll be first choice striker.
Overall, I like the way this team keeps the ball, very rarely did we see a hoofball to the front players. They play it out from the back and there is a lot of movement to give options. There's pace up front, the midfield can pass a ball and there's width from the wing backs. Orient were poor but we still had to beat and we did so comfortably without really breaking sweat. Much more to come from this team I think.
I don't normally have a go at referees, but I just could not understand some of his decisions - equally bad for both teams.
Anyway, an enjoyable evening well worth the tenner. |

| Who’d have thought with so many of last years defensive duffers in the team we’d be conceding nil, nil and nil after 3 games ?
Doesn’t reflect well on Adams and his methods does it. |

Doesn’t reflect well on Adams and his methods does it. I left Home Park last night feeling positive about this team, I know it is still a work in progress but, when they get going it can be a joy to watch. |

| Ryan Lowe believes Plymouth Argyle’s Carabao Cup second round tie against Championship club Reading will be a ‘win-win game’ for his side.
The Pilgrims will play Reading at Home Park, almost certainly on Tuesday, August 27.
It follows their 2-0 first round victory over Leyton Orient on Tuesday night, which came courtesy of second half goals from Callum McFadzean and Dom Telford.
Reading moved into the second round after beating Wycombe Wanderers on penalties.
Wycombe scored first as the tie at Adams Park ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and was decided by a spot kick shoot-out
The chance to play against Reading will allow Argyle to pit their wits against Championship opposition.
But given the Pilgrims’ superb start to the season, of three successive wins, it also presents them with a chance to make further progress in the competition.
Reading have lost both of their opening two games in the Championship, against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City
Lowe said: “We are never going to win the Carabao Cup because when the big-hitters start coming in then you are out, but it’s always nice to get through, especially the first round.
“It (Reading) is a win-win game for us. Whether they come here and change the team or not, I’m not too sure.
“We will stick to what we are doing. Our main priority is the league but we will never disrespect any cup competition when you have got a squad like ours.
“It’s probably got the making for an entertaining game,” added the Pilgrims’ boss.
Argyle had the better of the game against Orient from the start but it was only in the second half when they got the goals their play merited.
Lowe said: “Their manager said ‘You are a fantastic outfit’ and I love that when opposition managers say how good you are, but we play it down.
“We are not quite there yet. We are only three games in. Yes, we have got three wins and three clean sheets – fantastic, couldn’t have asked for a better start.
“We know there is going to be bumps along the road but I want to be dominating most games, whether it's possession, shots, corners, free-kicks – whatever it is.
“That’s our aim and our standards are very high. If we keep dominating games like that then more often than not you will win them.”
Lowe made five changes to his starting line-up from the 1-0 win against Colchester United in League One at Home Park on Saturday.
There was a start for 19-year-old goalkeeper Mike Cooper, Telford and Ryan Taylor started up front, Conor Grant was brought into midfield and Josh Grant made his debut in defence.
Grant was signed from Chelsea last week on a loan deal until January and had watched the win against Colchester from the stands.
Lowe said: “Josh has been on our radar for some time. He’s a fantastic kid and he couldn’t wait to get here.
“He didn’t look out of place. He watched the game on Saturday from the side and knows what we are about.
It’s not only him. Young Michael Cooper has come in and Conor Grant was fantastic.
“Tayls (Ryan Taylor) is now back. We gave him a good 60 minutes there, and there was Dom as well.
“I have said before the squad we have got is a fantastic one and we know that we can rely on anyone.” |

| Ryan Lowe wants to see Plymouth Argyle striker Dom Telford to become more selfish about goalscoring.
Telford opened his account for the Pilgrims in the 2-0 Carabao Cup first round win against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old was a £50,000-plus signing from Bury last month as he followed Lowe to Home Park.
A thigh injury disrupted his pre-season, and it was not until the cup clash against Orient that he made his first start for Argyle.
Telford celebrated the occasion with a fine low finish to make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute.
Lowe said: “We know what Dom is about, we know what he does and what he gives us. He has that burst of pace.
“He needs to be a bit more selfish now because there are a lot of strikers that are selfish.
“That’s how you end up scoring between 10 and 20 goals a season, by being selfish. If you are going to be nice and pretty, and set your mates up, then you ain’t going to score.
“We have had a word with Dom regarding that and he goes out in the second half and puts one in the bottom corner.”
Lowe thought Byron Moore, another striker signed from Bury in the summer, was unfortunate not to have scored his first goal for Argyle in the defeat of Orient.
Moore finished off a superb move when he converted a cross from right wing-back, which would have put Argyle 3-0 up, only for it to be ruled out by an offside flag.
Lowe said: “Byron should have had one as well at the end. I don’t think it was offside.
“It’s a cross-field pass and I don’t see how he’s offside. I will have to look at it back.
“I’m a little bit disappointed in that one for Byron because it’s always nice when you get on the scoresheet early doors.”
Argyle’s first goal against Orient came from left wing-back Callum McFadzean in the 59th minute.
McFadzean has now scored three goals in as many games for the Pilgrims this season, after not getting one in 49 appearances for Bury last term.
Lowe joked: “He’s not happy. He has got an assist bonus and not a goal bonus!
“He’s a fantastic lad with a fantastic attitude. He’s getting up there now, wanting to score more goals.
“He might be knocking on my door for a goal bonus rather than assists. Again, it’s desire and commitment to get in them areas to score some goals.” |
