From Sam Gallagher deal moving from Southampton to Blackburn-
Plymouth Argyle will receive a substantial six-figure sum after their former academy player Sam Gallagher completed a move to Blackburn Rovers.
Southampton have sold the 23-year-old striker to the Championship club for an undisclosed fee, which has been reported to be around £5 million.
Gallagher joined Southampton from Argyle as a 16-year-old in 2012 while he was still an apprentice.
Plymouth Live understands that the deal which took him to Southampton included a 15 per cent sell-on fee.
So Argyle are now set to get around £750,000 for a player who never kicked a ball for them as a professional. That beats the £500,000 the Pilgrims received when they sold striker Freddie Ladapo to League One club Rotherham United earlier this summer.
Argyle have subsequently signed Dom Telford from Bury for a fee of around £50,000.
Gallagher is returning to Blackburn on a four-year contract after spending the 2016/17 season on loan to them from Southampton.
During that campaign he made a total of 39 starts and eight substitute appearances, and scored 12 goals.
The 6ft 4in striker was on loan to Birmingham City for the following season, before playing six times for Southampton last term.
Overall, Gallagher made a total of three starts and 23 substitute appearances for Saints and netted two goals.
Gallagher told iFollowRovers: “It’s amazing to be back and it’s something that I have wanted to happen ever since I left the club after my loan spell.
“For the move to finally happen feels great. The whole feeling of the club, even walking around the training ground this morning, it’s almost as if I never left really.
“Even the drive into the training ground brought back so many good memories for me, but hopefully there will be better ones to come.”
Brentford and Wigan Athletic were reported to also be keen on signing on Gallagher but now it has been confirmed he will be playing his Championship football with Blackburn in 2019/20.
There has also been speculation this summer that Southampton's former Argyle defender Jack Stephens could leave St Mary's Stadium in a multi-million pound transfer.
Newly-promoted Premier League club Aston Villa have been linked with the 25-year-old from Torpoint.
Southampton signed Stephens from Argyle for £150,000 in 2011, in a deal which included a 10 per cent sell-on clause.
