While you were sleeping Empty
PostSubject: While you were sleeping   While you were sleeping EmptyMon Feb 13, 2012 4:47 pm

The mighty ECFC came up with a decent result again Championship challenging Sheffield Wednesday putting a very useful buffer twixt us and the drop zone, the Turks meanwhile continue cementing their place in the whoopee zone, ex City boy Martin Ling appears to be working miracles there on a budget which would probably just about cover two of your biggest losers. Meanwhile Devon's "sleeping giants" have a six pointer against the mighty Barnet hoving into view, yes I know it's not a six pointer in the true sense, there is no chance of your actually catching the Bees, but I think you have to see every game as a biggy from here on in. Must be hard for you just sitting around and watching both your local rivals kicking on, yesh, again I know they're not really your rivals, there is only one Devon derby, but still, watching the progress constantly being made by the local minnows while the long expected investment from your multi millionaire owner fails to materialise has got to be hard.

I shall be up in Nottingham tomorrow watching the glorious Reds continue with the momentum started against the Owls, but I promise that while I shall be following your game on th'interweb I shall take no pleasure in any setbacks that might come your way.

Yeah, right !

Unlike you though, I was at SJP last Saturday and only because Wednesday was utterly dreadful did the Greeks manage a win.

For the first 20 minutes it came as no surprise that Exeter hadn't scored in 363 minutes of football. Plymouth play better, and we know we are rubbish. Until Wednesday scored, there was no redeeming features for your sorry band of lost souls.

After Wednesday scored, I have never heard SJP so quiet. You would have thought everyone had gone home. The fact that you managed to score from two set pieces, was more fluke than anything else. set pieces have hardly been the forte of your hapless team have they.

I would also still be VERY concerned that you seem totally unable to score in open play. At least we can do that.

County will rip you a new one tomorrow evening. Normal service will be resumed.

I have often heard this mantra but I simply don't believe it. The nature of football fans is to enjoy their own results but then to relish certain other results, you probably fist pumped Ronney's pair against the Bin Dippers but any real Garg from the People's Republic of Jannerdom has at the very least a modicum of disdain for Exeter City and takes some gentle pleasure when we pussy up and fail to even get a shot on target, the vast majority just love it when we lose, some of you guys struggle to man up enough to admit it in public, but that's ok, you carry pretending that you haven't noticed the way in which over three season we have caught up over 70 league places on you and now have left you floundering a complete league and a bit behind us. Believe me old son, when that final result comes in and void that is the BSP hoovers you up, I shall feel happy that at least one Garg hasn't even registered that his team is now two full leagues below the mighty Exeter City.

You have conveniently forgotten your own relegation there Tis.

No way are the Greeks safe in League One. You look like a relegation haunted team.

Well you can believe what you want but i would say that Exeter or Torquay's results simply do not register [other than a mild interest taken in other westcountry sports results, including Truro,Albion,Chiefs etc] with people like Tring,Freathy,Gob,Rickler,Pirate and myself.Of course we've noticed the fact that Exeter have caught up 70 places and overtaken us but it doesn't really matter who the club was. Of far more relevance would be Argyle's relative position in comparison to Swansea's [for example] a few years ago and the fact that through a lack of courage at the right time, unbelievable mismanagement, greed and incompetence, our club has been royally fecked-it doesn't need you or anyone else to point out this fairly simple analysis or to emphasise the very real danger that Argyle are still in.TBH,when we were in the CCC,your club's existence didn't even come onto the radar-i simply couldn't give a toss and still don't.My dear old dad was a Pilgrim for 62 years before he passed away 3 years ago but he genuinely wanted Exeter to do well and i know of quite a few Argyle fans with the same attitude,so i think it would be rather a sweeping generalisation to say that Janners all feel the same way towards you.Its Argyle's position that matters to me,not the relative status with ECFC.

BTW,the last person that i would fist pump to is Rooney, unless he scored the winner for England in a world cup final and even then it would be with some reluctance.Same attitude applies to the premier as ECFC,total indifference-old son.

I guess that's the problem then, you think that you are a Championship club with aspirations to the Premiership when in reality you are are a third division club that occasionally flirts with the second.

I would have a greater inclination to believe your protestation of indifference re us if you hadn't admitted to bearing comparisons with Swansea, a club who's situation bears no relevance whatsoever to PAFC. I fear you may still be existing in some kind of alternate reality dreamworld, some kind kind of football relevance denial, hopefully soon you will come to grips with actual reality and understand that your aspirations should be to match the Turks then push on to try to get on terms with us, I wish you luck in that endeavour, I like your father never had intrinsic issues with rivalry, back in the seventies when I first moved to London I used to turn out with the Green Platoon to support a West Country team.

Now come on, just between you and me, as you're exiting Le Parc des Gnomes tomorrow with 3 vital points in the bag and you switch on the car radio to find out that we have lost 3 nil in a cold, soulless, three quarters empty northern hell hole, knowing that I have got a miserable three hour drive home, you really won't have a little smirk to yourself ?

Change the record Cerby, five point buffer and surrounded by teams that are at least as awful as we are, don't get carried away with their games in hand, there is some prize dross in that league, I remain relatively confident in so much as I believe we are not quite as rancid as at least four of the rest.

Not from me Al, I got the first train out of Exeter when I left school. I have the greatest of respect for the boys who will drag their sorry arses up to Nottingham tomorrow, we are pretty poor at home but absolutely dire away. I'm not sure whether we have got the fuzzy end of the lollipop or you, we have certainly got our fair share of northern hell holes this season whereas you have a few more Southern gigs, whatever you do don't take a gander at the BSP, Barrow, Southport, Fleetwood, Gateshead, Darlo, York, Grimbo and Lincoln will just turn you pale at the thought.

Sorry Tis, you are wrong.

We have no delusions of grandeur on here. We were once a fairly successful Championship team. We are no longer.

We certainly miss the Championship, who wouldn't? Oh, sorry, you wouldn't because you have never reached that lofty height have you?

Yes, I follow City's results, but no more or less than Torquay or Yeovil or the Bristols. My only real concern is the survival of Plymouth as a League Club and I fully admit I never ever want to experience the utter despair you and Torquay must have felt upon your drop into Conference relative obscurity.

Will I care that you will lose tomorrow in a grim Northern shithole? Not really. But I will feel mildly sympathetic with regard to your drive home, only because you seem a decent bloke for a Greek.

And this is where I lose the argument, if you boys seriously care that little about anything non Argyle why would falling into the Conference imply obscurity ? Shirley then whichever league you were in would still be the centre and whole of your universe ?

I thank you though for those kind words Cerby.

Well of course it would.

The perception though is that it is oblivion. I also think that a further administration would follow and ultimately, no matter how many shirts and pens are sold this time, it would be the end of Plymouth Argyle.

5 more wins LT, 5 more wins that season and we would have been in the promised land.

5 years LT, and we'll be back above you.

The thing is, you know that, and i know that.... But bask in your 'glory' it's so impressive being near the bottom of league 1................................

The whole Country is in decline so why just pick on Plymouth? In fact the whole of bloody Europe isn't doing so great.

It always amuses me when somebody from Exeter comes onto an Argyle board and believes that Argyle fans actually do care what they are doing. I like a lot of other Argyle fans look at results with a mild interest for all Devon sides but that is about it. I really don't care much what other clubs are doing or where they are. I would have hated either Exeter or Torquay to have remained out of the football league but only on the basis that this area is starved of league clubs so a loss of one or more would make matters worse. It does seem to matter much more to Exeter supporters but I'd guess that is from years of following in Argyle's wake so they intend to enjoy their gloat whilst they can as deep down they know it won't last.

monti, quoting a league and what might be is like saying I had one number on the lottery but if I'd had the other 5 I'd be a millionaire. It's all wishful thinking. We didn't make it and we are where we are so give the Exeter chap his 5 minutes of gloat and help make his day.

And four more losses that season and we might have been relegated.

We are where we are now. Let's hope we're not there at the end of the season. Now, that would really give the Exeter faithful something to gloat about. And be prepared for the storming of pasoti and even ATD by gloating Grecians.

Gosh, so you only missed out by 15 points, jeez what a nail biter that must have been.

You think being a full league above a basket case is cause for basking in "glory" do you ?

I'm not here to gloat, just a bit of playful banter, obviously it will hurt the Avivas who think you deserve to be higher than you currently are, you got there by stealing 17 million quid, we stole 4 million but still finished up in the Conference so I guess you had a bit of a ride before you finished up fubar. Plenty of us chosen people from Devon's Capital City tried to warn you of the perils of riding that particular train and then shouted "look behind you" when the Riddler strolled down off the Moors, very few wanted to see your demise but a lengthy sojourn in the BSP would be a hoot.

As it happens I think that is unlikely, you are nicking too many points with late goals that suggests you are playing with a bit of spirit which counts for a lot come the death, but that doesn't stop me from hoping.
