Plymouth Argyle will play at Home Park for the second time in four days when they take on Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

Shrewsbury are in 20th position in League One, five places below the Pilgrims but only two points behind them, so it is an important game for both sides.

Here is what Argyle manager Derek Adams had to say to Plymouth Live football editor Chris Errington in his pre-match interview.

The first question was about midfielder Antoni Sarcevic, who has missed the last two matches due to a suspension.

CE: You mentioned after the game on Saturday that Antoni Sarcevic would come back into the team against Shrewsbury. Did you mean the starting 11?

DA: He will be right into the starting 11, yes.

CE: It’s not often you say things like that. Why so definite about him playing in this game?

DA: Because Antoni Sarcevic is a big player for us. He has the running power, he links up play well, he’s good at winning the ball back and can score the odd goal as well. He will definitely start the match.

CE: In a strange way could he have benefited from a little break from the action?

DA: Not really, because he was in a good run of form. He was disappointed as everyone else that he missed out.

That’s what happened and he has missed two games now that we have performed well in, but when you have your main player coming back then we want to start him.

CE: The next two games are against Shrewsbury and Fleetwood, which are his former clubs, so I’m sure he will be eager to put in good performances.

DA: Yes, of course. I think you always like playing against your old clubs.

I’m not looking at it that way, I’m just looking to try and get one of my best players in the team.

CE: Joe Riley is another former Shrewsbury player. He came into the team on Saturday instead of Ashley Smith-Brown. What was the thinking behind that?

DA: We played with Joe as the right wing-back and it gave him the licence to get forward.

Ash could have played there, but I didn’t feel that he would have played as high up as Joe did to stop (James) Justin getting forward, so that was the main reason.

CE: So it was very much a decision with a specific formation and opponent in mind?

DA: It was, yes.

CE: Does Joe continue in the team tomorrow night?

DA: Yes.

CE: Ashley Smith-Brown is one yellow card away from a two-match ban, but the cut-off point is after this game. Does that have any impact in decision-making over the team?

DA: Yes, it probably does because it would allow us to go into the remaining games with a full squad to choose from, nobody picking up the yellow cards suspension.

CE: You went up to Shrewsbury on a Tuesday night, they are coming down here on a Tuesday night. What thoughts have you got on this game?

DA: I heard their manager (Sam Ricketts) complaining that they were coming to Plymouth on a Tuesday night.

I know he wasn’t the manager at the time but we went there on a Tuesday night. That’s what happens.

It’s a good game because we have come off a very good performance against Luton Town and we want to continue the home form.

We are on excellent home form and we want to continue that run against Shrewsbury.

CE: It wasn’t a win on Saturday but it was a good performance and result. That must give the players confidence.

DA: We have played against the top teams this season and we have been able to compete with them.

We have also done well since the turn of the year against the teams around about us, so that’s going to be important.

CE: Five points are covering the teams from 12th to 21st in League One. That’s ridiculous isn’t it?

DA: It is, yes. It is extremely tight, and that’s why I always say wait until the six games of the season because there is nothing between a lot of the teams down the bottom.

CE: This is is a significant game for both teams isn’t it?

DA: I think that a win for us would allow us to catch a couple of teams above us and put us in a much better position than we are already in.

CE: I was looking at the average attendances in League One this season and Argyle with seventh on 9,534. How happy are you with that, considering you are playing in a three-sided ground at the moment?

DA: The fans have had a lot of disruption this season because of the work that has been going on around the stadium.

The average attendance was always going to be down this year because of that.

Also, there were a lot more season tickets bought in the summer, and that has an aspect to it.

And then we have still got a number of big gates to come, ie Bristol Rovers.

Gotta stick it to the Aviva's somehow,
That all is not as rosy as they would like us all to think it is.
