| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Reports in Belgium suggest that top-flight side Waasland-Beveren are set to sign Plymouth Argyle’s Oscar Threlkeld. The 23-year-old has become a key figure at Home Park after signing from Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2016 following a successful loan spell, but he is out of contract this summer, although the club have offered him a new deal. Threlkeld is now mulling over his next move, but after two hugely successful campaigns with the Pilgrims, interest is sure to be high. Now, a Belgian-based journalist is claiming that Threlkeld is poised to be unveiled by Waasland-Beveren once he has passed a medical with the Belgian top flight club, who finished 12th in the 16-team Jupiler League this season. Argyle will want to keep Threlkeld at Home Park, but if he was to leave for Belgium, then the Pilgrims would not receive a fee for his services, despite him being under the age of 24, as he would be available on a ‘Bosman’ free and entitled to move abroad for nothing. Championship club Preston North End are also said to be keen on Threlkeld, but they would have to pay for his services, being based in England. Just goes to show that any club with ambition and pays accordingly can attract players even to a country as dull as Belgium. Again wouldn't hold it against him if he goes. No point holding out for him to sign for a english team as Del Bhey wont see a penny of any percentage argyle may get.

| First departure of the three important players who look likely to leave. We now need 2 x first choice full backs to come in. Adams has his work cut out already.
Good luck to Threlkeld though - top flight football and trying his hand overseas. Why not? |

| Shame he has left but At least he didnt spin it out all pre season like Curtis Nelson did and Carey tried. I would like Fox and Bradley to do the same if they are staying or going decide quickly so del can look to find a replacement sooner rather than later.
All the best to Oscar. |

| Anon: Derek was willing to substantially increase his wages, refused to offer more than 2 years and bonuses. Waasland-Beveren were willing to offer 3 years instead of 2, and a lot of additional benefits. Derek was aware he could get 3 years elsewhere.
He chose abroad. A desire to move and play abroad like he says? Contract Terms? Wanted a new manager? You decide. |

| if Brent had any ambition for this football club he would have surely by now seen enough of Del's work and certain players abilities to back them and want to invest in them in order to keep them here and match their ambitions in the game. low balling players like Oscar who will have suitors elsewhere is never going to result in a positive outcome.

| Thing is when you sign an Austrian (or any other sort of foreigner) the chances are he isn't going to hang around long.
After all if he is prepared to leave his home country then the one he ends up in holds little importance in terms of a permanent residence.
He's essentially a footballing version of a troubadour. He put on his show, upped sticks and moved on.
We can hardly be surprised.
I wonder if Brexit was a factor? |

I wonder if Brexit was a factor? yeah but if that Austrian wanted to leave, the club can sell him on for a fee and gets something for him rather let him see out his contract and walk for free much like Threlkeld has done here and Bradley will do soon. 2 Good players walking for free is not good business but i expect nothing else from brent. |

| Seems an odd move to make, surely he would have got more money in the Championship (Preston were supposedly interested)? Good luck to him as (Sweden apart) there don't seem to be many Brits playing on the continent.
I would try and replace him with the RB from Rotherham (on loan from Ipswich). Wages would probably be an issue though. |

| The Belgian top league is a strange set up and splits into two groups near the end of the season - the top 6 play off for the title, the 7th - 15th team play off for a Europa League place and relegation. Oscar's new team are in the second play off group and in 8 games have won once, drawn twice and lost 5. Their last game was an 8-0 defeat. |

Oscar Threlkeld was born 15/2/1994.....so he is already 24. Think Wikipedia is incorrect as baggo states his birthday is 15th December 1994 (although that could also be wrong ) |
